If you have not watched the 2022 film Fresh, then this is your call to do so. Mimi Cave’s directorial debut is a dark comedy horror that introduces us to Noa, a young woman tired of the terrifying way online dating works. Thus, when she meets the charismatic Steve in an offline setting she thinks her life will change for good but, her new boyfriend’s unusual appetite does not let her have her happily ever after. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan in prominent roles, the film is a co-production between Legendary Pictures and Hyperobject Industries.
Hellraiser
Another 2022 release, Hellraiser is a supernatural horror flick directed by David Bruckner. The film is about a young woman who is forced to confront the miserable supernatural forces captured in a puzzle box which are responsible for her brother’s mysterious disappearance. It is based on the 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker and stars Odessa A’zion, Jamie Clayton, Brandon Flynn, Goran Višnjić, Drew Starkey, Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds, Selina Lo and Hiam Abbass.

Antlers
Scott Cooper’s supernatural horror film Antlers got a mixed set of reviews on its release in 2021. However, we assure you that the film has some great cinematic moments coupled with the scares you need this Halloween and some excellent acting performances. Adapted from the short story titled The Quiet Boy, the film stars Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Jeremy T. Thomas, Graham Greene, Scott Haze, Rory Cochrane, and Amy Madigan.
In the film, we meet a small-town Oregon teacher and, the local sheriff, who is the teacher’s brother. The two discover a young student who harbours a secret that comes with some unprecedented, horrifying consequences.
Shirley
The writer of the much acclaimed The Haunting of the Hill House which turned into a successful Netflix series recently lived a life that came with its own set of consequences. The film is a bibliographical drama based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Susan Scarf Merrell and revolves around the horror novelist Shirley Jackson and her life during the period she wrote Hangsaman. Not essentially a horror film by the book, the movie does incorporate elements of it that will send shivers down your spine. Elisabeth Moss headlines the film as the titular character along with Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young and Logan Lerman.
Books of Blood
An anthology horror film that deserves more hype than it has garnered, the film takes the journey of three people named Jenna, Mary and Simon and how their different lines end up being tangled in space and time. It is based on Books of Blood by Clive Barker and stars Britt Robertson as Jenna, Anna Friel as Mary and Rafi Gavron as Simon alongside others.
