5 Courtroom Drama Series Like The Trial That Will Almost Make You Take Up a Career in Law: Boston Legal, How to Get Away with Murder, and More

You have to admit that there’s something about courtroom drama series that makes them so appealing. There are numerous legal dramas available for all to access but of late, there has been a bombardment of them, and an effective one at that. To watch how a smart and intelligent lawyer mindfully breaks down a case to its last piece only to put it back together to find the answer he or she is looking for and bring the criminal to justice is very enthralling.

There are other facets in courtroom dramas than the case and the lawyer. These include the emotional arcs of the characters, the struggles in the pursuit of the truth, accomplishment, and how sometimes one has to twist facts to turn the tables. It may be wrong for us but for them, it’s their job. Keeping all these in mind, Disney+ Hotstar’s latest Hindi legal show The Trial has dropped. It stars Kajol in the lead role along with Jisshu Sengupta, Kubbra Sait, Sheeba Chaddha, and Alyy Khan. If you are liking it, you might want to read on and if you haven’t started it, this list will help you garner interest.

5 Courtroom Drama Series Like The Trial

Better Call Saul

A prequel as well as a sequel to the highly acclaimed Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is more than a courtroom drama series as it explores the psyche of conman turned lawyer Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman. The show is quirky, and everyone knows that there are not many people who do quirky better than Bob Odenkirk. Moreover, when your client is meth lord Walter White (Bryan Cranston), you need to put aside what’s right and what’s wrong and figure out a way to win. Personally, this is one of the best shows ever and thus a worthy successor to Breaking Bad. The show is available on Netflix.

How to Get Away with Murder

Starring the fabulous Viola Davis as criminal defense lawyer Annalise Keating, How to Get Away with Murder is not just a legal drama but a thriller legal drama. Upholding legal info to her interns and the audience alike, Annalise shines as a strong cutthroat independent woman ready to take on the law. But things get rather too serious for her when she and her five interns get involved in a murder. A perfect bingewatch-worthy courtroom show. You can watch the show on Netflix.

Criminal Justice

Based on the British courtroom drama from 2008 of the same name, Criminal Justice is another series like The Trial on Hotstar. With acclaimed actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Vikrant Massey, Jackie Shroff, and Mita Vashisht, the show follows two perspectives; one, of the trial in court and the other, wherein we see the accused and his transformation in jail politics. Gripping, fast-paced, and with compelling performances, this series deserves its place on this list.

Boston Legal

Before James Spader was a supervillain who wanted to kill the Avengers, he was a lawyer. Boston Legal takes us back almost two decades and is one of the most compelling and realistic courtroom dramas of all time. The show is a comedy-drama but don’t be fooled, the 2004-2008 aired show will take you by surprise with its legalities. Spader is middle-aged Alan Shore, a brilliant lawyer unethical at a litigation firm which the show revolves around. The other actors include William Shatner, Rhona Mitra, and Lake Bell. If you like humor, you will love this one. The show is available on Hotstar.

Lincoln Lawyer

One of the new and few courtroom drama series to come out of Netflix, Lincoln Lawyer too, like How to Get Away with Murder, brings up the legal terms and points that we as the audience love to know about. Another aspect of this show is the action it involves. So courtroom and action. Isn’t that the perfect combination? And to give shape to the combination, we have the very convincing Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as the Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller who rides a Lincoln Town car. So if you are fond of action like I am, this show will do you justice. The show is available on Netflix.
