When a high-profile murder of a gifted sarod player upends his wife’s life, advocate Achinta Aich decides to take up the case in order to save the girl from the hands of an unjust justice system. However, getting justice from the hands of the rich and powerful isn’t an easy quest when his quest for justice takes him down a road full of lies, secrets and deceit.

Advocate Achinta Aich is one of those shows that is wholly forgettable but still mildly entertaining to keep you watching till the last episode. Its biggest win is Ritwick Chakraborty, whose awkwardness is infectious and who makes Adv. Aich come alive. Also, Debraj Bhattacharya as Lakkhan Bhim Sardar is really amusing. Their pairing is funny and humorous and cuts through the murkiness of the rest of the plot. His home life is equally entertaining and his bickering with his father is amusing and watchable.
Coming to the rest of the plot though, there’s something really missing in terms of thrill and tension. It’s so cliched that you’d be able to predict everything that is about to happen next, down to the dialogues. It’s amusing to be able to figure out the dialogues of a new show, but then again, this one tries to be nothing more than simply mediocre. The decisions made by senior lawyers and how to go about protecting their own is nothing short of surprising because they are just so dumb – non-lawyers will find themselves annoyed and incredulous as to how Sitaram Ganguly, the head honcho apparently, relies more on intimidating rather than being good at his job.

Now, the intimidation tactic of head honchos isn’t anything new in these courtroom dramas. Regardless of the language of the show, almost every courtroom drama’s “scarily amazing” lawyer seems to be really frightening but has nothing smart to offer to the table. The underdogs, on the other hand, come up with smart rebuttals that eventually help them win the case and all but it’s tiring watching such well-known and seemingly learned lawyers doing stuff that is almost childish and anti-climatic. It makes the protagonist’s struggles seem small.
In episode 7, however, Advocate Achinta Aich gives a fitting twist, considering how simple the story otherwise is. I think it does a good job of bringing forth some good twists that are entertaining if nothing else. On that note, the twists are convenient and although we thankfully get an ending that is not a cliffhanger for once, there is much to be desired about the convenient fashion in which things are tied up. Plus, we spend too much time mulling over unnecessary things in the first couple of episodes and are left with a sort of rushed last few minutes that leave much to be desired.
Apart from Chakraborty, we have the fantastic Saswata Chatterjee, whose character is paper-thin but who plays it with conviction. Surangana Bandopadhyay, as Malini Dutta, is sweet and plays the innocence of her character well. Chakraborty’s closing statements in the series are impactful and he delivers them well.
Advocate Achinta Aich Review: Final Thoughts

Entertaining yet utterly forgettable, Advocate Achinta Aich is a one-time watch. It gets its messaging right and its protagonist is absolutely delightful to follow. However, it does fall into the trap of being a cliched and convenient watch but thankfully it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, so there’s that.
Advocate Achinta Aich is streaming on Hoichoi.
