The season starts with August, Wilhelm and Simon coming together to talk about the next steps of August’s indiscretions from season 2. After Sara tells the police the truth, August is made to pay for damages to Simon and he and Wilhelm are asked to stay polite but out of each others’ ways. Although that works for the most part, Erik’s death takes a toll on Wilhelm’s family, who are devastated but do not face their grief properly causing friction between mother and son.

On the other hand, Simon faces homophobia from the public and starts to feel the effects of being in the public eye. He is sent hate mail and harassed on social media, and a rock is also thrown in his house. As his mother thinks of moving due to feeling unsafe, his sister Sara moves to their father’s house after being unable to face his brother for some well-deserved alone time and reflection.

Unfortunately, although she starts to make headway with her father at first, she is let down by him once again. In the end, although Simon tries to get his individuality back through his interests, he is asked to delete his social media and keep a low profile by Wilhelm’s security detail, who promises to keep him safe.

On the other hand, August is also going through guilt after Sara breaks up with him and he and Wilhelm fall out. Plus, a horrible initiation ceremony when he was in his first year haunts him to this day and the humiliation that he faced at that time makes him want to lash out in ways so that he can get some control back. He ends up telling Wilhelm the truth about Erik, who was one of the people who took part in the horrendous bullying, and the Crown Prince is unable to accept that his older brother is capable of something of this sort.

Thankfully for August, Sara forgives him in the end after listening to everything that has made him who he is now and that he is actively trying to change himself. Unfortunately, Felice gets to know about this reunion and it seems like she won’t be happy with this.

All of these come to a head on Wilhelm’s birthday which he celebrates with his parents and Simon at his house. He confronts his mother for not being there for him and encouraging him to put on a facade and after a blowout fight, Simon’s perception of his boyfriend changes. He breaks up with him that night, telling him that love doesn’t need to be this difficult.

In the last episode, Hillerska is closed down thanks to Felice’s reports about the bullying. As the students enjoy one last night of partying, August and Sara break up, after she realises that he does not see her for the person that she is. Sara, however, makes up with Felice and they forgive each other. Wilhelm and Simon also spend their last night together by the lake before saying goodbye to each other the next day.

However, the next day, just before bidding goodbye, Simon informs Wilhelm that he didn’t give up on their relationship, but rather on the Royal Crown. Wilhelm doesn’t choose to give up his duty at first, but later on, realises that this isn’t what he wants and has a calm conversation with his mother to let her know that his interests lie elsewhere. After telling his parents that August would make for a better king, he rushes to find Simon and the two of them tearfully kiss after Wilhlem informs him that he gave up on the Crown on his own terms.

The series ends with the two lovebirds ending up happy together as they ride off together with Sara and Felice.
