Yakuza Fiance Episode 1 Recap

The plot revolves around two individuals born into rival Yakuza families in Japan, who are brought together through an arranged marriage orchestrated by their grandfathers. The male lead, Kirishima, initially comes across as a kind and considerate young man, but soon reveals his true nature.
He is not a typical romantic hero as his eccentricity and downright unhinged personality make him unpredictable, shattering the conventional mould of romance protagonists. The female lead is also not a mere damsel in distress. She’s a formidable character in her own right, and as the story progresses, her strength becomes increasingly evident.

The series begins like many romances, with the two leads, Yoshino from the Soumei family and Kirishima from the Miyama family, meeting for the first time. Initially, Yoshino is even somewhat impressed by Kirishima. But as the story unfolds, she discovers the depths of his true character and realizes she’s been pulled into a dangerous game. To survive, she’ll have to fight back with everything she has.
He tries to scare her by telling her to be useful and sell her body to be of use. But she does not crumble and goes as far as selling her kidney to pay him back. This, however, awakens a strange feeling in Kirishima, who now claims he is genuinely in love with Yoshino.

Yakuza Fiance Episode 1 Review
A very twisted and weird romance has started between our two protagonists, who cannot be more different from one another. Yoshino might seem weak, but she is a very strong-willed woman, and Kirishima might seem like an innocent boy, but he is a crazy masochist, rotten to the core. But after their very intense interaction in the first episode, now Kirishima has become oddly smitten with Yoshino, who wants nothing from him. His sudden obsession with Yoshino worries her as the love that he is professing does not seem healthy at all.

Kirishima becomes so obsessed with the idea of love with a woman like Yoshino that he starts to monitor her via GPS. He obviously does this more to protect her, but this kind of attention is still uncomfortable for her. However, the circumstances surrounding them are also not normal, as both of them are kids from yakuza families. They are bound to be involved in some shady stuff even when they might not be directly linked.
Hence, when the daughter of another powerful yakuza family, Shiori, gets kidnapped, Yoshino gets told to stay with Kirishima at all costs for safety reasons. If anything happens to Yoshino, that can result in major gang wars. It is also better for them if Shiori gets discovered, as then tensions amongst the yakuza groups will die down temporarily. But, something goes wrong when one day Yoshino witnesses someone she shouldn’t have.

This episode again proves why both Yoshino and Kirishima are just perfect for each other. Yoshino is an assertive and reasonable woman who is also pretty sane, even though she comes from a yakuza background. Kirishima, on the other hand, is a literal freak who is drawn to that aspect of Yoshino. I’m pretty sure if anyone can control or handle someone as wrong in the head as Kirishima, it can only be her.
Verdict

This episode was, again, very interesting and engaging. We got a bit more info on Kirishima’s background and discovered he had violent tendencies from a young age. There is an air of mystery surrounding him, and I believe we will discover more about him later.
