Wonderful World Episode 1 Recap and Review: Eun Soo-hyun’s perfect life comes to an end when an incident makes her life collapse forever. Directed by Lee Seung-young, the drama stars Kim Nam-joo, Cha Eun-woo, Kim Kang-woo, Im Se-mi, Won Mi-kyung, and other cast members.
Wonderful World (원더풀 월드) is a thriller mystery that tells the story of a mother who stands up to get justice herself when the system fails her. However, she soon finds many others who are encouraged to walk the same road as her, beginning a series of cases that finally get justice and people who heal.

Wonderful World Episode 1 Recap
Eun Soo-hyun stands in the middle of a street at night and looks at the man in the car whom she recognises as Kwon Sun-yool, the man who became her confidant after her life changed forever. However, the man holds an intense look in his eyes as he turns on the car and dashes towards her at full speed.
Soo-hyun closes her eyes at this moment and looks back to where this story began. It was the year when she won the Rosaline Literary Award and was the peak of happiness. With a loving husband and a miracle child who came after four miscarriages, Soo-hyun was happy living the life she was given.
Living in this happiness is all she knew, until the day which she thought was perfect but became the day when the happiness was forever gone. As Soo-hyun was leaving for an event in another city, her husband was taking care of their son. During this, he is reminded of his life as a reporter and begins to miss it.

However, he soon notices that his son has a slight fever and calls his wife to ask about his medicine. Soo-hyun gets concerned and makes her way back home when her husband fails to update her about their son’s condition. She rushes home and sees her son playing in the garden and is relieved to see him doing well.
She then goes inside to check on her husband, who is surprised by her return and sees him taking some pills. She gets hold of them and understands that her husband has been mentally struggling since he left his job due to issues with his superior. She feels guilty for not knowing about his struggles amidst her joy while he consoles her by telling her that he wants to show his best side only.
Soo-hyun understands him and tells him that she respects his decisions and that he was right to have made that choice back then. The two console each other when they hear their dog bark all of a sudden. Soo-hyun rushes out and finds her son missing while their dog is barking from near the gate.
She rushes there and understands that her son has left the premises of their house which makes her anxious. She soon starts looking for her son with her husband but gets no news until later that day when she comes across a crowd of people. She walks towards them and hears them talk about a child, and it is none other than her son.
She is struck and rushes to the hospital with him. Soon, her husband and mother rush there while she puts on a strong front, reassuring them that nothing will happen to her son. However, she is soon stunned when the doctors inform them that her son is in critical condition and that they need to be prepared for the worst.
Soo-hyun is no longer able to hold herself and soon collapses. Later, her mother tells her to let go of her son as the poor boy is inserted with needles everywhere and is waiting for her to send him away. Soo-hyun is unable to let go of her son but makes her way to her son in the ICU.
There she sees the needles inserted in him and the bruises on him which terrify her. She sees her son in this condition and tells him to go back home with her as they need to go on the picnic he had been excited about. Hearing these words, her son says goodbye and lets go of his life.
Soo-hyun and her husband are devasted by this incident as they soon bury their miracle son. They then come across the memorial set up by locals at the place where her son was found and finally breaks down into tears that bring her to her knees. The case became a sensation all around the country as Soo-hyun is a famed writer whose tragedy can be sympathised by all.
This case is the only thing holding Soo-hyun and her husband in place after their loss as they seek the law to give them the justice that they deserve. However, the defence begins blaming Soo-hyun’s inattentiveness as the beginning of this incident and tries to turn the case around.

Soo-hyun too begins blaming herself while the couple finds it harder to keep going. However, all the efforts that they put in holding on to themselves fall when the court announces the verdict in favour of the perpetrator who shows his remorse, which lets him get away. Soo-hyun is shocked by this decision while her husband screams at the injustice done in court.
Wonderful World Episode 1 Ending
Turns out that the perpetrator was part of a politician’s party and received his help in getting away from punishment. Meanwhile, Soo-hyun’s husband is put in prison while she makes her way to the perpetrator who is walking freely on the streets.
She stops his way and asks him to apologise to her son who lost his life due to the perpetrator’s carelessness and decision to let the child die on the street. Soo-hyun knows that if he had taken her son to the hospital then he could’ve survived, but because he reached the hospital late, he couldn’t be saved.
Soo-hyun begs the man to apologise to her son, but he is not ready to abide by her request as he had already apologised in court in front of the media. He then makes fun of her helplessness and walks away from there. Soo-hyun is devastated and walks towards her car, deciding to go with the second option she had prepared for this day.
She soon starts the engine and remembers her son and the man who forced her to make this choice. With this, she runs her car towards the man and ends him the same way he killed her son.
Wonderful World Episode 1 Review
The Kdrama has begun with an intense start and Kim Nam-joo has taken the spotlight with her wonderful performance that is capable of moving anyone to tears. She has made us reach out for the tissues and combining this with the serious plot displayed today, this Kdrama is definitely in for a good start.
Being the first episode, this thriller has laid the foundation for Soo-hyun’s villain era and we are surely loving this. The actors chosen for the characters portrayed today were perfect and while some parts were predictable, the actors made sure that you will be stuck to this show for the upcoming weeks.
Altogether, this was one of the best starts among Kdramas and we are eagerly looking forward to what’s next in this thriller.
