Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 3 Review The Lore Of This World

This episode provides background on how Will secured a place at Regarden Magical Academy, despite his lack of magic affinity. His admission to the prestigious school, designed for Majes, seemed absurd given his zero magic ability. Upon arrival, Will faced severe criticism and bullying from peers who believed he was admitted only due to Elfaria, a young Magia Vander.

The turning point came when Headmistress Cauldron tested his sword skills by attacking him with powerful magic. Will not only defended himself but also protected his professor, Workner, and countered every move of the headmistress. Impressed by his potential, Headmistress Cauldron admitted him to the academy. However, Professor Edward openly showed disdain towards Will from the beginning, growing more agitated after witnessing Will’s abilities. Edward doubted that someone with a sword could match, let alone defeat, a magician.

When Edward confronted the headmistress, she challenged him to conduct his own test on Will. If Will passed, Edward would have no further complaints. If he failed, Will would be expelled. Accepting the challenge, Edward unleashed brutal attacks on an unarmed Will.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 3 Review The Lore Of This World

In this episode, we get a more detailed look at the world of Wistoria and the life of Will. Even though he is just a student, Will also works part-time as a paper boy, and it is through those papers that he gets to know about a new magic that Elfie has managed to create. He also learns that she needs Frost Walker ice cores as she needs a lot of magic catalysts. Thus, the school has issued an order that those who would help find these ores from the dungeon will be rewarded, and the client will be Elfie herself.

Being very much in love with her, Will obviously decides to help and thus asks his roommate and friend, Rusty, to prepare some magic items. Rusty seems like a nice boy who cares for Will and doesn’t treat him with disdain like others. Hence, Will departs to the 4th floor of the dungeon, where we already see many students have gathered to collect the items.

In this episode, we learn about the importance of creating new magic. Alfie is definitely the strongest magician ever born, as she managed to create 12 new magics in her lifetime. Everybody praises her for being incredible, and because of this, many think ice magic is superior.

Back in the dungeon, Will meets an underclassman named Iris, who is getting attacked by a creature. Thankfully, she is decent enough not to be repulsed by Will and be appreciative of him saving her. After that, he engages in a deadly battle with a fearsome creature, where he proves that he doesn’t need magic to beat his enemies.

As usual, this anime had very good animation, plus, the background music was also pretty epic. The entire viewing experience was a very positive one. But there was a bit of a twist towards the end, so stay tuned for that.

Verdict

I loved today’s episode a lot especially, the part where we get to know more about the lore surrounding this world. It seems like it is in a different dimension where the people here cannot see the original sky and have been protected by a barrier and a fake sky produced thanks to Magia Vender. It is believed if the sky falls, this world will be destroyed.
