What If Season 3 Episode 4 Recap

The episode opens with Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck welcoming their new baby to the world. Or, well, waiting for the egg to hatch. At that point, however, they didn’t know that their child was destined to change the world. We get to know how Darcy and Howard come to know each other at Thor’s party and become an unlikely duo to fall in love and get married. However, that was not the only thing that came out of Thor’s rager – some of his guests who came to this world never left.

Unfortunately, their peaceful life comes to a screeching halt when Howard is summoned to Grandmaster’s Grand Cruise Across the Stars, taking them by surprise. Once on the cruise, it soon becomes apparent that the Grandmaster is acting very iffy, especially with their egg. Of course, things soon go out of hand when they sit down for their meal and realise that their egg is on the menu!

However, just before their baby becomes scrambled eggs, Yondu makes a surprise entrance and kidnaps the egg much to the shock of everyone at the gathering. Darcy and Howard fly after them in a spaceship but Yondu disappears in the blink of an eye, leaving the new parents disappointed and scared. They reach out to Nick Fury, who fills them in on why their baby is so special – the birth of the egg happened on the day of the Cosmic Convergence and it points to the fact that their child might be a great new power.

Going against Fury’s orders to leave the extraction on them, Howard and Darcy rush to Knowhere to find the Ravagers, while Yondu makes a deal with Kaecilius, who has taken over the Collector’s place after trapping him in the Mirror dimension. Kaecilius, however, refuses to bargain and takes the egg from Yondu before getting rid of him. Darcy and Howard, meanwhile, make their way into Knowhere and find their egg being prepped for “ensoulment”. As Kaecilius offers the egg to Dormamu, SHIELD stops the operation but a fight breaks out among everyone present. Darcy and Howard steal the egg at the right opportunity and make a run for it, while SHIELD issues an Amber Alert to find the egg.

They go to get help from Loki but in the midst of their conversation Fury and his men arrive to take the egg from their possession. Another fight ensues as Laufey decides to get the egg for himself and restore Jotunheim to its former glory but it all stops when Zeus makes a grand appearance. Soon after, a ton of bad guys make their appearance as well – all of them to get their hands on the magical kid. After a ton of running and snatching, however, Darcy and Howard realise that things are getting out of hand and they can’t save this child from every bad guy in the cosmos. Just as they are about to give up hope, the baby hatches and kills everyone who tried to harm its parents eventually coming down and snuggling with its mother.

Fury, too, assures them that he won’t try to take the baby from them because they are clearly capable parents and Loki offers a room at their new cabin as an apology. In the end, the family goes back home to spend some quality and peaceful time together, of course, as peaceful as life can be with a newborn!

What If Season 3 Episode 4: Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Seth Green as Howard the Duck

I am constantly shocked at the audacity of an episode of What If where Darcy and Howard the Duck get together and have a magical baby. The entire concept of this episode is kooky and it gets points just for daring to get that far with the concept! Overall, the episode is so far-fetched that it’s thoroughly entertaining, bringing some heavyweights of the MCU to one episode and creating an insane rush to keep us on our toes. It goes from one crazy level to another, getting totally unhinged by the time we reach the end. If you can get over the very odd pairing, I think this one will leave viewers chuckling throughout! Apart from that, the animation was really good and the story is thoroughly humorous

The fourth episode showcases the birth of a magical, powerful being whose existence can create or destroy the universe. However, to Darcy and Howard, it’s just their little baby whom they have to protect with everything that they have got. Thus, when the Grandmaster starts this plan of trying to kidnap and harm their baby, it starts a chain where every bad guy comes out of the woodwork to try and steal the egg.

The reason why the baby is so special is because Darcy’s due date, or the egg’s birth day fell on Cosmic Convergence, proving that it was destined to have a lot of power. Although we don’t see deeper into that, we do see the baby’s power once it’s on the verge of hatching and it does everything in its power to protect itself and its parents. After it annihilates everyone around it, Fury realises that a baby is always the happiest and safest in the arms of its parents, allowing Darcy and Howard to take the baby home.
