What If Season 2 Episode 8 Ending Explained
At the end of What If Season 2 Episode 8, we find Tony unveiling his latest invention, a device designed not only to locate the Forerunner but also to send them back home using the Time Stone from Thor’s sceptre. Steve and his Merry Men join everyone else at Tony’s, devising a plan to infiltrate the court disguised as foreign courtiers and await Tony’s signal. As they gather, a new temporal rift appears. Wanda attempts to control it with her magic, and the Hulk bursts in, yelling “Signal! Signal!” prompting the team to spring into action.
The team leaps into action, clashing with Thor’s soldiers. Thor is eager to join the battle alongside his brother Loki, who unfortunately can’t find the hammer Thor gifted him. The banter between lazy, spoiled Prince Loki and Thor is a highlight, but sadly, it’s the only episode featuring this dynamic. In a one-on-one with Happy, Rogers accidentally damages his prized feathered hat, triggering Happy’s transformation into “The Freak” for the second time this season.
Peggy attempts to reason with Thor to surrender the sceptre, but his anger prevails. The clash intensifies as Thor unveils his vibranium sword, “The All-Father,” engaging in a duel with Peggy, while the Hulk faces off against the Freak, their intense battles threatening to bring down the walls.
Scott guides Tony to the front of the hall, where Wanda signals Fury to hand over the sceptre. With Wanda’s strength waning, Tony inserts the stone into a device. Simultaneously, Peggy, armed with a time-stone-powered repulsor-type glove created by the device, releases a blast, exposing the identity of the Forerunner. The revelation is none other than Steve Rogers, a revelation that may not shock those familiar with Gaiman’s Marvel 1602 run.
Steve explains to a puzzled Peggy that he recalls battling Thanos, describing him as a “monster with a golden glove.” Accidentally striking a stone on Thanos’s glove with his shield sent him back to 1602. Thor urges Peggy to send Steve back, but she can’t bear to lose him again. Steve activates the stone himself, vanishing to his time, leaving Peggy in heartbreak. Seeking solace in a local tavern, Peggy is soon joined by Strange Supreme, who arrives seeking assistance, concluding the episode with a suspenseful cliffhanger.
Now what will happen if Strange Supreme intervenes essentially makes the plot for the next What If Season 2 episode and, we cannot keep calm to see where things will head next.
