Wanda Sykes: I’m An Entertainer Review: Written and performed by Wanda Sykes, the new stand-up special that took place in Philadelphia covered various topics like the pandemic, white supremacy, racism, transphobia, and such. The Netflix stand-up special is directed by Linda Mendoza along with notable crew members Ben Bloodwell, Michael Csatlos, Tom Greco, Andrew Juhl, Michael Leonard, Lyn Noland, Chong Pak, Michelle Sun, and David Taicher.
Wanda Sykes is a comedian since the late 90s who got her start on The Chris Rock Show. Since then, she has made her own career in this industry, even creating her own show on Netflix titled The Upshaws, which focuses on the life of this blended family bouncing back from trauma and finding a way to make it work again. She is also an activist, author, and a wonderful mother.

Wanda Sykes never fails to impress, and she sure kept that expectation once again. From pandemic jokes where she enjoyed staying alone away from her wife and kids, only to happily smoke weed, to thrashing the white supremacists subtly yet strongly, Sykes’ choice of words has to be appreciated.
On that note, she brought up real incidents of black people’s deaths, like Breanna Taylor, to point out how white people have a privilege that Black people can’t easily enjoy. While these topics are sensitive, she added them in her performance backed with crude humour. The crowd laughed at her jokes but also took the message she was conveying.

Apart from the lessons she imparted, she also made the crowd roar with laughter. Her iconic bathroom joke explaining how women hover on top of the toilet seat, wiggling their bodies while peeing, is by far the best joke she has thrown at the crowd. It’s not a fake scenario that she made up, but indeed something that most women can relate to.
Wanda Sykes is 59 years old, yet she kept running around, not to mention, rolling on the floor to make what she addressed feel cinematic. Her explanations were expressed with actions that kept the whole stage vibrant. She even made fun of her personal life, which takes might, so kudos Wanda, kudos! Hopefully, her wife won’t get mad at the “goodwill” joke.

Her fight for Black lives and LGBTQ+ rights can be seen via the stand-up as well. It takes a lot of courage to pull out facts on television, knowing that a lot of hate comments and cancel culture freaks would surround her. Yet she chose this path for the overall good. Throughout that one hour of her amazing stand-up special, comedy and knowledge were blended well that not a single moment felt boring.

When the show ended, I was sad because I needed more of this wonderful artist’s words. She really knew the X-factor to grab the attention. She’s fierce, flawless, savage, and, most importantly, goofy. When she described her gynaecologist experience, she literally spread her legs out to the crowd to show her experience in the most vivid and hilarious way. Such a bold woman with you see what I show attitude. Love it!
Wanda Sykes: I’m An Entertainer Review: Stream it or Skip it?
Stream it, of course. Wanda Sykes has got the power to keep one’s eye wandering from left to right since she’s most of the time running around and spewing hilarious experiences. Her choice of words shows her excellency at dissing with decency. Sykes is absolutely a genius person, and this stand-up special is an add-on to her history of achievements.

The political remarks and divisive comments caused me to turn it off. I used to love Wanda. Too bad she turned this special sour.
