Upcoming Vijay Sethupathi Films of 2023
Michael
This film starring Sethupathi will see him as a teacher guiding a student to commit some of the most notorious acts. The protagonist Michael played by Sundeep Kishan, is seen continuously challenging his master as gruesome acts of violence take place in the foreground. Growing up as an orphan and having nothing, Michael rises to the top and becomes one of the most powerful people in the criminal community. Apart from the main cast, the film also stars Divyansha Kaushik, Gautham Menon, Varun Sandesh, Ayyappa Sharma, Anasuya and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The film is directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi and will release on February 3, 2023.
Merry Christmas
This film just finished wrapping and will come to the film screens soon. Along with Sethupathi, the cast includes Katrina Kaif, Sanjay Kapoor, and Vinay Pathak. It is a thriller written by Anukriti Pandey and Sriram Raghavan, the latter also serves as the director of the film. The cast members recently shared an image indicating that the principal photography has wrapped up and the film is going into the post-production process.
Viduthalai
Adapted from a short story written in 1986 titled Thunaivan, it was written by Jeyamohan. This film is a crime thriller starring Soori, Sethupathi and Gautham Vasudev Menon in the lead roles along with Bhavani Sre, Prakash Raj and Chetan. The film is produced by Elred Kumar and directed by Vetrimaaran who also served as a screenplay writer for this film.

Gandhi Talks
In the announcement put up by Zee Studios, cast members Sethupathi, Arvind Swami, Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth Jadhav are seen interacting with money and statues emulating the teachings of Gandhi. Directed by Kishor P Belekar, this will be a silent film in the dark comedy genre. While the announcement itself was fantastic, a lot of elements were also introduced including the music producer A.R. Rahman. This film is set to release this year but doesn’t have a release date yet.
Mumbaikar
This will be Sethupathi’s Hindi-language debut and is filled with a star cast including Vikrant Massey, Tanya Maniktala, Hridhu Haroon, Sanjay Mishra, Ranvir Shorey, Sachin Khedekar and others. This film will chronicle the lives of the people living in the city of Mumbai (dubbed Mumbaikars) and will follow their unique experiences living in the city. The synopsis reads, “The story is based on the life of people at Mumbai which includes their happiness, drama, fun, and romance which interlink their lives.” It is directed by Santosh Sivan and written by Amit Joshi, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Aradhana Sah. This film is slated to release this year but doesn’t have a specified date yet.
Jawan
Saving the most exciting for the last, this film will star Sethupathi alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Other cast members include Deepika Padukone, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, Yogi Babu, Priyamani and Sunil Grover among others. The synopsis reads, “A common man is punished for a mistake he did not commit. How does the false event affect him and how does he fix it? How did he overcome those who put him through this trouble?” The film is directed by Atlee and is expected to release on June 2, 2023.
