Velma Episode 7 and 8: Is This Still a Murder Mystery?

Velma Episode 6 ended on a rather interesting note, where audiences thought that the future episode will delve deeper into the mystery of the murder of the girls and find out more about Velma’s mother being missing/murdered. Although the last episodes served more as fillers there was some expectation from the upcoming two where the tables turned a lot.

The seventh episode of the series opens with our titular character stuck with the ‘jinkies’ note in her mother’s handwriting and shifts her focus to collecting information to find out what her mother was trying to say with the note. As iconic as the reference to the OG show is, the segment of Velma being on an investigative search seems repetitive as the show is on a loop to keep the audiences guessing.

Meanwhile, the brain-removing murderer is out there. The police, of course, take no responsibility for the situation and tags it as a supernatural activity. The interesting part is, this inclusion could very well give this story a Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin twist but, it just ends up being bogus by the end. The Fog Fest is the ritualistic dance that we come across in the seventh episode.

In the eighth episode, there is some closure to certain flying storylines. The episode is again dedicated to Velma’s missing mother and also focuses on the relationships of the characters that we saw develop in the previous episodes, such as Norville and Gigi, Velma and Daphne.

Velma Episode 7 and 8: Final Thoughts

Velma is a show that really wants to hit the mark but, cannot. The seventh and eighth episodes are shallow as ever. Although it is important to mention that the eighth one is by far one of the most well-made ones in the series (kind of similar to episode one), by not being backed by other good episodes, it loses its charm.

With only two more episodes left before the series comes to an end, the core on which the story is based still seems unexplored and not focused on enough. However, it would be safe to say that not a lot of people are going to miss this show coming to an end.
