Velma Episode 5 and 6: A Little Improvement Can’t Go a Long Way

Velma Episode 5 and 6 seems to have taken the criticism by the fans a little seriously and has tried to make things work, only in the wrong way. In the fifth and sixth episodes, the focus is removed from the murdering plot of the show and is shifted to relationships and focuses mostly on the characters as a whole.

We see Velma’s hallucinations worsen and Norville’s absence due to him getting a new girlfriend named Gigi makes the situation for our titular character worse. She continues her investigation into why her mother was at Fred’s house when she went missing and discovers the mad scientist named Dr. Edna Perdue. Edna also happens to be Gigi’s grandmother and the mother of the school’s principal and Velma dives right in to find out more about her, giving us an underwhelming Scooby-Do (or more like. S.C.O.O.B.I) origin story.

Meanwhile, we have Daphne on her search for her biological parents, who she ends up finding but, has to go a long way to earn their trust for them to finally reveal their true selves to her. Along the sidelines, we have Velma and Gigi fight over Norville and, the latter going through a personality change that makes him more unlikeable than ever. Fred continues to be a shining object in the story without anything much to do.

Velma Episode 5 and 6: Final Thoughts

The fifth and sixth episodes of Velma are completely inconsistent with the storyline we have followed so far. Although, Diya’s kidnapping does make it worth what it started with. the focus is more on the characters which aren’t worthwhile because there are not characters you can invest in in the first place.

Velma is surely one disturbing character to stick with as she finds a newfound appreciation for Norville’s presence and fights for him. However, this results in her sideling Daphne from her life which is what the show majorly focused on in the first four episodes. At this point, the show feels illogical and even the Scooby and Jinkies reference can’t save it from the derailment.

Meanwhile, you can now watch the latest episodes of the show on HBO Max.
