Still From Urusei Yatsura

Episode 23 is here, and we are back again with another review. Today’s episode is the last of the first season of the Urusei Yatsura revamped version, and the conclusion did not disappoint us at all.

It starts with the competition that is taking place in Ataru’s school, where everyone is busy selecting the best girl in the school. Here we have some tough contenders, including Ran, Sakura, Ryuunosuke, Shinobu, and Lum.

In the first contest, they are supposed to excel in the mystery box challenge, where we will have to put their hands inside a closed box and guess what is inside it. Everyone is scared of the unknown, and only Lum can correctly speculate the presence of Ten because of his horns. Then they were supposed to guess what he was holding, and because Ryuunosuke is accustomed to watermelons, she quickly identified that, earning points.

The next challenge was also won by Ryuunosuke, who only had to use some tools to get hold of a candy hanging from the ceiling. Lum also succeeded in this but got minus points as she didn’t use the tools she was supposed to utilize.

Then comes the next contest, where they had to eat nonstop to prove their good digestive system. And obviously, in this challenge, nobody even stood a chance against Sakura sensei as she is an infamous glutton.

Finally, the last challenge is where things get hilarious as everyone is supposed to fight to prove themselves. Ran, knowing she’s the weakest of all, kisses everyone other than Lum to suck their energy out but only later realizes her mistake as they will have to fight with wild animals and not amongst themselves. Thus commences utter chaos, which would make you laugh out loud.

But thankfully, this time, the episode ended on a romantic note, and we saw some hope for the Ataru x Lum ship, which would be explored in the next season.

Verdict

I will definitely miss the quirkiness and randomness of this anime and will eagerly wait for its following season. This episode was more chaotic and funny than its predecessors, and I’m glad they showed many of the supporting casts toward the end. For those who like to binge on anime, now is the best chance for you to go and enjoy it.

Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
