Urusei Yatsura Episode 18 Review and Recap – Lipstick magic

Urusei Yatsura Episode 18 Review: A Sinister Meal
Still From Urusei Yatsura

Episode 18 is here, and we are back again with another review. This episode of Urusei Yatsura starts with Lum doing some experiments on her spaceship. After some time, we realise that she is actually making a lipstick that she applies on herself and tests it out. She definitely looks beautiful in it, but the results remain unknown, and we get to see what it does, only after she goes to Ataru.

In his room, Lum tries to forcefully put her lipstick on Ataru, but at that moment, her cousin Ten drops by, and he accidentally gets the lipstick on his face. Both Lum and Ten get stuck with each other, and Ataru realises that with this lipstick, Lum wanted to kiss him. She accepts she did it only because it is the only way he would kiss her, as otherwise, he avoids her.

Ataru pretends to throw the lipstick out, but after Lum and Ten leaves, he quickly takes it out and thinks of different ways to use it on others. He carries it to the school and manipulates Ryuunosuke to try it on, for she is the one who wants to dress up as a woman the most. But nothing goes as planned in this anime, and chaos ensues. Somehow almost everyone in the class unintentionally or intentionally wears this problematic lipstick. Even Ataru and Mendo accidentally kiss each other.

The next part focused on Ataru’s class having a re-creational activity called Yaminabe. On that day, everyone will come with some food items and put them in a giant pot, and after that, they will switch off the lights. They will have to eat whatever they pick without looking at the components.

Becoming excited about this challenge, Lum prepares a dish, that ends up becoming too deadly for Ataru. And to get revenge on her, Ataru starts to search for things that Lum would hate. This again results in utter confusion when some alien components and Lum’s deadly cooking gets thrown into the pot for the entire class to eat.

Verdict

This episode was really funny, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The silly punches successfully make you laugh, thus creating a light-hearted comic experience. On the plus side, we get to see Ten-chan again. He definitely ended up becoming one of my favourite characters.

I recommend everyone to watch this series for its randomness and bizarreness which just adds to its charms. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
