Urusei Yatsura Episode 12 Review and Recap – Ten, The Cousin Of Lum

From the very beginning, Ataru’s parents have accepted Lum, a lot more than their son. And we can see it first hand in this episode where they happily take pictures of Lum, who is in a traditional kimono. They even express how it would have been great to have a daughter and make fun of Ataru, saying if he had been a girl, he would have been ugly.

That is when a new character enters the picture. He is none other than Lum’s cousin, Ten, who is just a baby. Undoubtedly, he is the cutest character in this anime and instantly, he wins us, the viewers, over. Ataru, on the other hand, is not at all happy that another of Lum’s alien family members has come over, and he doesn’t even try to hide his displeasure for the child.

Ataru, who wanted to spend time alone with Sakura, is absolutely miffed that now, Lum and Ten will accompany him to Sakura’s house. He continues to badmouth Ten, and Ten finally lets his power of fire do the job for Ataru.

They finally reach Sakura’s house, and Ten again becomes a favourite of all the people, present there. He even punishes Ataru’s perverted behaviour of grasping everyone’s hands while playing Karuta by using fire on him. Sakura finally throws Ataru out, and that is when Ten falls in love with the mature and calm beauty, Sakura.

Ten even tries to write a love letter for her, but Ataru wanting to sabotage his plans offers to write the letter himself while promising to guide him properly. Hilariously, Ataru writes an obscene letter full of filthy suggestions. But even that couldn’t stop Ten’s chances as Sakura, not wanting to break the heart of a child, goes along with this bizarre date.

But sadly, we, as viewers, already know that Sakura has someone whom she truly loves, and by the end of the episode, we get a huge announcement about her relationship status. This news leaves Lum happy and ecstatic, but, on the other hand, Ataru and Ten almost go into a catatonic shock.

Verdict

Today’s episode was definitely very cute as Ten’s who is going to steal your heart with his adorableness. Other than that, it was a fun and entertaining watch with fewer comic punches than previous episodes. Even though this episode was not something extraordinary, it still can hold your attention, till the end. Watch the anime on HIDIVE if you haven’t yet.
