Unmasked Episode 4 Recap
The episode starts with So-ryong being flocked by journalists over her nude photo leak. As she is tackling the journalists, she finds Cho Hae-won waiting for her inside. Meanwhile, the journalists continue to flock outside Trigger’s office causing mayhem for the others. When So-ryong arrives at the office though, they seem to have magically disappeared. She proceeds to tell everyone about Hae-won and although the others ask her to not pursue this, she refuses to back down.
Either way, So-ryong and Han Do have an interview with Hae-won, who, for some reason, shamelessly flirts with Han-do and makes him uncomfortable. Either way, she asks Hae-won about Cha Seong-wook, but she seems dodgy with her answers. She refuses to be “interviewed” but instead gives her a tip – a woman had come to see Seong-wook the night that he disappeared and she didn’t tell anyone because she wanted to protect his dignity.

Meanwhile, Trigger gets a surprise visit from Ms Choi, who details the horrific injustices faced by Lee Yu-mi, a young girl who has been raped by her father for years. She implores So-ryong to help convince Yu-mi to fight for herself and after some convincing, she agrees to do so. She shares her harrowing incident with the photo leak with Yu-mi, who finds her story relatable but refuses to fight for herself. She chooses to die but tells So-ryong to leave her boyfriend safely. Meanwhile, both Gi-ho and Han Do get a promotion.
As the investigation surrounding Dr Trigger’s identity starts, everyone gets questioned. During Han Do’s interrogation, Hyeong-tae pays a surprise visit and tells him to join So-ryong in the Seong-wook case and update him on critical information. He bribes him with the company card, leaving him shocked. Meanwhile, he also threatens So-ryong, making her pick Han Do to work on the Seong-wook case with her. Later, So-ryong tries to get through to both Yu-mi and her mother but they both shut her out while at KNS, Jin-woo is taken in for questioning by the auditing team.

Jin-woo begs his superiors to forgive him just once and it’s an embarrassing spectacle to behold. Meanwhile, Dae-yong meets Seong-chun, the previous Trigger chief, who tells him about an incident surrounding a fellow reporter who did some shady dealings, including getting rid of a very important tape on the Seong-wook case right before it was supposed to be aired. He apparently also had a drawer full of condoms. It turns out that the person is none other than Koo Hyeong-tae. Meanwhile, Han Do meets Yu-mi’s mother to knock some sense into her, adding his own heartbreaking story to drive the point home. He implores her to take care of her, or at least not harm her further and she tells him that she is doing all this so that her husband doesn’t die – then Yu-mi will be called a murderer.
Later, Gi-ho confronts Han Do and, for some reason, wants to face off with him. But Han Do is only happy to learn that So-ryong picked him. Speaking of So-ryong, she meets Jin-woo one last time to get closure and is thoroughly disappointed with everything that he has to say on his behalf. She breaks up him with and, for good measure, runs over the engagement ring with her car.

So-ryong meets Yu-mi later and thanks her for her advice. In return, she opens up about how she became pregnant because of being raped by her father and the latter murdered her child right when it was born. Traumatised and angry, that’s when she decided that she had to murder her father. However, she is not remorseful of her actions but is rather heartbroken about not being able to bid her mother farewell. So-ryong relates Yu-mi’s plights to her own and is overcome by emotions. So-ryong comforts her and makes her smile and Yu-mi tells her to air the episode so that everyone gets to know the truth. She further shows her the note that her mother had written for Han Do, mentioning that he had come around to drop it off for her.
In the aftermath, Jin-woo resigns from his job and Han Do tells So-ryong that Yu-mi’s father has died. She is overcome with happiness and celebrates happily in the rain. Yu-mi and her mother also have a tearful reunion. Later on, as So-ryong waits for Han Do to get her medicines, suddenly the under-construction building next to her collapses on her.
Unmasked Episode 4 Review

Unmasked started off being a rather confusing state of affairs in its first week but within 4 episodes, I am hooked. The drama has gone from meh to fantastic within the last two episodes and it has picked up the pace significantly. Now that we are done introducing the characters and their quirks, I can’t help but find almost everything about the show thrilling and funny. It balances these two elements so well, leaving viewers to be completely enamoured by the storyline. The A plot and B plot are clearly defined but also merge into each other, such that it’s such a great experience. The leads are fantastic, especially Kim Hye-soo and Jung Sung-il, who sell every moment they are on-screen so well that it’s hard to look away. Kang Gi-ho’s character is a little annoying in my opinion, but there’s always one of those characters in almost every drama.
All in all, I have high hopes for this drama and hope that it delivers on its promises.
