Trees of Peace, a film inspired by true events which took place during the Rwandan genocide in the 1990s is all set to be released on Netflix in June 2022. Starting this year, Netflix seems to have invested a lot in bringing many true crime films and thriller TV series from around the globe on its platform. As we can witness a lot of foreign languages content and many limited docuseries getting the green light.
One such film along similar lines is Trees of Peace, which will tell the story of the genocide that occurred in Rwanda in April 1994. During this period members of the Tutsi, a minority ethnic group, were massacred by armed soldiers. The film is written and directed by Alanna Brown and produced by Ron Ray, Barry Levine, Mike Bundlie, Brian Baniqued, Jeff Spiegel and Vicky Petela. The film will have a runtime of about 1 hour and 38 minutes.

The cast includes Eliane Umuhire as Annick, Charmaine Bingwa as Jeanette, Ella Cannon as Peyton and Bola Koleosho as Mutesi in the lead role. Along with Tongayi Chirisa as Francois, Omono Okojie as Akimana, Philip Michael as Hutu Soldier, Evan Alex as Daniel, Jamal Akakpo as Lt. Ngeze, Maurice Mack as Rene, Salieu Sesay as Commander, Tarnue Massaquoi as Seba, Victor Kamwendo as Pascal, Brian Mganga as Martin, Zack Yanni as Militia Man, David Madison as Valentin, Kondwani Phiri as Captain Rugamba and Sekou Sirleaf as Peter.

Trees of Peace Plot/Synopsis
Netflix’s official synopsis of the film reads – “Four women from different backgrounds forge an unbreakable sisterhood while trapped and in hiding during the genocide in Rwanda. Inspired by true events”. In the trailer, four women from different backgrounds and beliefs are trapped and hiding in a small space under the kitchen floor of a house. It is set during the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Their fight for survival against all odds unites the women in an unbreakable sisterhood as they are trapped for days while holding on to the hope of surviving.
