Trainwreck: PI Moms Review
Trainwreck has slowly turned into one of the most entertaining releases this year, with one insane story after another every Tuesday. This week, we learn about a reality TV show that was fraught with controversy, featuring backstabbing, drug dealers and corrupt cops. If you thought Keeping Up With the Kardashians was messy, then you’re going to have a swell time with this one!
Trainwreck: P.I. Moms showcases the story of four soccer moms whose day jobs include being private investigators. They were headed by Chris Butler, who ran the firm, as well as a male investigator, Carl Marino, whose dreams of being a star are what brought it all down in the end. The story is absolutely insane and goes from 0 to 100 in a matter of minutes. It touches on the mistrust that we have of reality TV and introduces some emotion into it, stating that although there’s a lot that is scripted, it’s interesting to see how passionate the cast and crew were about the project.

However, that’s not the point. P.I. Moms is possibly the most entertaining of the lot, right after Balloon Boy, and throws facts about the case one after another. I like how the film progresses, and there’s no extra fluff, ending the story in a tight 45 minutes. It’s unrelenting and thoroughly entertaining. From a seemingly innocuous conversation between Carl and Chris to a journalist receiving a worrying email, viewers would never be able to guess where the story will go until they’re in the thick of it and by then, it’s absolutely insane.
One of the more emotional parts of the film is the moms and their stories getting lost in the midst of illegal drug operations and two men’s egos. Thankfully, this documentary will bring the truth and their stories to light, however late, and will fulfil their desires in the end. Although the conclusion, with Marino ending up with the fame that he always wanted, was a gut punch, we can all breathe a little easier that the moms’ stories were straightened out in the end.
Final Thoughts

Trainwreck: P.I. Moms is thoroughly entertaining, with some nuanced emotions portrayed through an otherwise insane story. The story isn’t perfect, but oh boy, the documentary sure is!
