Tower of God Season 2 Episode 1 Review: At last, the 2nd season of Tower of God is back, and we are very excited about this. Let’s find out how the new episode of this season is.
Overview
Tower of God is a South Korean manhwa created by S.I.U., which has been serialized as a webtoon on Naver Webtoon since June 2010. By May 2024, the series had been compiled into 15 volumes by Young Com, with an English translation available on Line Webtoon since July 2014.

The first season of the anime adaptation premiered on April 1, 2020, in South Korea on Naver Series On and Aniplus, and aired in Japan from April 2 to June 24, 2020. At the Crunchyroll Expo in August 2022, it was announced that a second season was in production.
The second season, produced by The Answer Studio and directed by Akira Suzuki, with Kazuyoshi Takeuchi as chief director, is set to premiere on July 7, 2024. The opening theme, “Rise Up,” will be performed by NiziU, who will also perform the ending theme.
Tower of God Season 2 Episode 1 Review And Recap

After four long years, we’re finally getting the second season of this much-awaited franchise. This episode opens with a recap of what transpired after Rachel betrayed Bam. Nobody suspects her of any wrongdoing, but we see a visibly depressed and sad Androssi. Bam, however, did not die, and he decides to become stronger and go up the tower again so that he can have his answers to the betrayal. But that is all we see of Bam, as this season will not focus on him entirely.
Elsewhere, we see Yuri, who visits another Zahard princess and asks her to look for Bam. But in exchange, the other princess asks for something else, and they both agree to help each other out. The scene then shifts to the 20th floor of the tower, where regulars are screened once more. But this is where things get complicated. If you fail to pass the test and do not get an E rank for yourself, you get stuck in this level. Plus, the tests are extremely difficult, and the fee to take the exam is absurd. This is why this floor is filled with people who might never go up the tower ever again.

Here, we see another important character of this season, Ja Wangnan. He is a carefree, deceitful, yet good-hearted guy who rakes up tremendous debt because of his expenditure and failure to pass the exams. But he must get over the difficulties as otherwise he will have to sell his organs to the debt collector. On his last attempt to climb the tower, he comes across a mysterious man who is going to change his fate for the better or for worse.
Verdict

This anime has an innate issue that you cannot help but point out. Yes, the animation is great, and the action sequences are cool, but storytelling is where it lacks. The world of the Tower Of God is a complex and intricate one that needs to be properly explained for non-webtoon readers to understand, but that never happens. You are given information about things you won’t be able to comprehend until and unless you read fan theories or get help from those who have read the webtoon. This is why, for someone who is a pure anime watcher, the series becomes tedious and hard to follow.
This season is starting in a completely new direction, so it is still very early to claim anything, however, I hope they improve this aspect.
