Top Tier Music Video Review: Park Woo-jin Showcases His Unapologetic and Powerful Self in the Latest Track

Park Woo-jin finally released his much-anticipated song Top Tier and the fans are ecstatic about it! The rapper and singer makes his solo debut with the mini-album oWn, and the song serves as the title track. He unveiled the album along with the music video on February 27, 2023, at 6 PM KST.

The songwriter contributed to the lyrics of the song alongside Elephant’s Minos and Ouow. The AB6SIX member formally establishes himself as a solo artist and flaunts his dynamic side through the compelling solo track. The fiery concept of the latest music video corresponds with the artist’s passionate personality.

The song opens with Park Woo-jin playing an arcade game inspired by the likes of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat Franchise. He instantly starts an intense rap verse where he expresses his achievements. He also talks about how different and unique he is from everyone else, indicating that no one is near his level of success and talent. Furthermore, he holds authenticity in the highest regard and says he is one of the few artists with that quality.

High-intensity beats, along with aggressive and boastful lyrics, categorise the song in the hip-hop genre. The rapper has no difficulty in delivering the verses with an amazing flow. The artist seamlessly goes from rapping an energetic verse to singing a melodic verse. It shows off his versatility and talent to switch between two different song styles.

However, the music video does not contain many exciting or new elements. It consists of similar settings to other rap K-pop songs. The performer is the main attraction of the clip, and the director utilises him to the fullest. Woo-jin also showcases his dancing skills accompanied by background dancers.

There are various costume changes and hairstyles throughout the video. He first appears in a casual outfit representing hip-hop culture and then in a golden suit that displays his expensive style and taste. The artist also appears to wear dreadlocks, a very common street style that has recently been deemed as cultural appropriation.

Moreover, after a few minutes, it is revealed that he is one of the participants in the arcade game. It is a metaphor for how he is able to win any game and overcome any trouble thrown at him. The concept is not new, but it is well executed, and the singer-rapper also contains a spirited attitude to carry the powerful lyrics.

The mini-album oWn also includes 4 b-side tracks along with Top Tier. It also includes several collaborations, Gotta Go featuring Verbal Jint, Feelin’ Good featuring Jiselle and Self Portrait featuring former Wanna One bandmate Kim Jae-hwan. It also contains a solo track from Woo-jin named, Dive.

The audience well-received the new track, and it took top spots in the South Korean music charts. Not only domestically, but the song also performed well internationally.
