The 6th episode of Tomo-chan Is a Girl or Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! (トモちゃんは女の子!) is here, and this episode was just hilarious with its different character’s quirky antics and the random situations they fall into. Now without further ado, let us jump into this review.

Still From Tomo-chan Is a Girl

This series is that much-awaited anime adaptation of our beloved romcom manga of the same name. Fans of this franchise are beyond ecstatic that this perfection of a romcom is finally getting the proper treatment it needs, and we are excited to see how it goes.

The anime is directed by Nanba Hitoshi, who has worked on Anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, Hajime no Ippo, Gosick, etc. The sound director is Masanori Tsuchiya, who has given music to shows like Plastic Memories, Kenja no Mago, Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii, etc.

The opening song will be Kurae! Telepathy (くらえ! テレパシー)” performed by Maharajan. The ending theme is “yurukuru*love” performed by voice actors Rie Takahashi, Rina Hidaka, Sally Amaki.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Another hilarious episode of Tomo-chan Is a Girl! is here, and we are back again with its review. This episode starts with Tomo turning 16 before everyone else. As a birthday present, she even gets funky-looking sunglasses from her friend Jun, and she teases him about how she is now older than him. In school, she reasserts her dominance of age with Misuzu, and her expression tells us that Tomo does this every year. From her, Tomo gets reference books, which does not truly excite her, but she is still thankful for it.

Carol’s gift is perhaps the most bizarre, as she literally gifts a block of gold to Tomo. But with Misuzu’s suggestions, they decide to do something productive with that money for Tomo. They give her a makeover of a lifetime that includes full-on makeup and even a wig.

Tomo genuinely looks beautiful, and her friends force her to go out to buy some ice cream so that others can appreciate her beauty as well. But bad luck to her, she runs right into Jun, who even though realises this girl resembles Tomo but is too shocked to believe that. They spend some time together, and it becomes clear that Jun truly cherishes Tomo as a friend, but he is not yet ready to go beyond their original relationship of pals and become something more. This segment was definitely funny, but it was more endearing as we got to see Tomo happy and giddy for being called beautiful by Jun.

The next segment showcases an intense dodgeball battle between the boy’s team of Jun’s class, where Tomo is also participating because of her strength. Here, both Jun and Tomo work together to get a surefire triumph against all their opponents until they face the strongest man in school. But even then, they were able to achieve victory.

Here something gets established about Jun. His overwhelming admiration for Tomo hinders his ability to see her as a lover because he has always admired her strength and wanted to catch up to her. Hopefully, he will be able to realise her feelings and understand his own soon.

Verdict

As usual, this episode was funny and entertaining, with many memorable moments. I definitely recommend everyone to watch this if they like romcoms. Watch this anime on Crunchyroll.
