Today We’ll Talk About That Day Review
The NKCTHI universe is an ever-expanding one wherein we see different relationships between different members of a family. The relatability of this movie franchise and the beautiful way in which they are shot is what makes these movies so close to fans’ hearts. If you’ve seen one movie, you will be compelled to watch the others just to see what the family is up to.
The latest release delves into Angkasa’s relationship with his wife, Lika, and also looks at Angkasa’s father, Narendra’s past and relationship with his wife Ajeng. The latter couple has a complicated meet-cute, one that is extremely tragic, but that doesn’t stop love from blooming. Either way, this movie holds on to the series’ normal – it is calm, collected and flows beautifully with a family drama in the centre. It never becomes too much, but it still talks about important, unsaid dynamics in different relationships and discusses how to see beyond the anger, hate and annoyance that one might feel when interacting with different people day in and out.

Angkasa is going through marriage troubles in this movie, and he is annoyed for most of the runtime. However, those who have watched the series will understand him as a character, although he does feel a bit silly here, being jealous and all. In this film, the hot-headed Angkasa is reeling from different issues in his marriage, but Narendra, whose sweet love story we get to see interlacing his own son’s, is the glue that keeps the marriage and this movie together. His words of wisdom from years of experience are calming to watch.
The highlight of this movie is Narendra and Ajeng’s love story. Although we see its own problems, problems that are pretty big and a struggle that ends in slight bloodshed and a ton of heartbreak and sleepless nights. It’s sweet to watch their love win, slowly but steadily, and, in turn, Angkasa also finds peace in love. The movie takes time to show us these moments. It’s not really a movie which is trying to make some profound point – life hardly ever does. However, it’s a look into everyday life and the different problems that pop up while you live and grow.

However, apart from the love story, the movie is, as always, about the relationship shared between the family members – this time, it’s Narendra and Angkasa. The latter struggles to move away from underneath his father’s shadow and make a point. Unfortunately, there hardly ever is a point to make about these things, and Narendra handles his son and daughter-in-law’s heartbreaks beautifully. Understanding another person’s pain is an important aspect of living together, and it can be done without getting defensive or angry, only if you keep love first.
However, I must mention one thing here – Angkasa’s storyline, especially how he comes to the realisation of his issues, feels very awkward and weird. I think it would’ve made more sense if they showed him moving past his hangups by conversing with Narendra. But the way they showed him reaching the end of his journey feels rather odd and extremely awkward, especially because the character he interacts with feels like a random addition and the fact that more father-son time would’ve strengthened their relationship in our eyes further.
Today We’ll Talk About That Day Review: Final Thoughts

As is with this movie series, Today We’ll Talk About That Day is a very sweet, emotional and hopeful story about love, relationships and forgiveness. It shows that if you water it and love it, the most difficult plants can bloom. The film looks great and leaves you with a smile on your face. In the end, you are left to ask why all films don’t finish on such happy terms! All in all, a great addition to the series.
Today We’ll Talk About That Day is streaming on Netflix.
