Through My Window Across the Sea Ending Explained: Did Ares and Raquel Get Back Together?

Resuming the amorous adventures of Ares and Raquel, the Spanish hot teen romance sequel premiered on Netflix on June 23, 2023, leaving us with a shocking and tragic end as talked about in this Through My Window Across the Sea ending explained article. Originally titled A través del mar, it stars Julio Pena as Ares, Clara Galle as Raquel, making for the leading pair of the story. Also starring Natalia Azahara as Daniela, Guillermo Lasheras as Yoshi, Ares’ brothers, Hugo Arbues as Apolo and Eric Masip as Artemis, and Emilia Lazo as Claudia, the film has been directed by Marçal Forés, with Eduardo Sola working on the screenplay adaptation of the book authored by Ariana Godoy.

The A través de mi ventana sequel treats the titular couple harshly as they’re consumed by the thoughts of their “better half” on being separated by many many miles in between them. Pursuing their respective subjects of higher education at different universities, Raquel and Ares spend the entire time fantasising about each other without end. They continue arousing each other’s feelings via text and pictures sent over the internet, but as time passes by one can notice that they’ve stopped talking about their profound emotions hidden deep underneath.

Ares takes a chance and makes up his mind to reduce the distance between him and his girlfriend, and comes back home to surprise Raquel, eventually sweeping her off her feet and taking her to her family’s villa, perfect for the summer, and for them to reconnect with no one around. That plan falters too, as his brothers also end up inviting their partners and friends.

The “family vacation” becomes even more complicated when Raquel and Ares’ respective new friends also happen to join the fun in the Mediterranean. As one can expect things to go down, these friends have their own hopes of starting something more with each of them, while Ares and Raquel’s relationship is ridden with suspicion and doubt, and ultimately starts withering away.

The closer we get to the ending, the worse Ares and Raquel’s relationship gets, almost as if the writers are determined to break them up. Having attempted to bridge the gap between each other due to the physical distance of separation, they eventually realise that they’ve somewhat grown apart emotionally as well, and have missed out on a lot about each other in the past year.

Throughout the course of the film, Raquel’s best friends help provide her with the comfort she needs as her bond with Ares is tested. Yoshi, especially, sticks it out with her, and his residual feelings for her leave him feeling complicated, but he tries his best to be there for her as her friend, even supporting and pushing her to send in her book’s manuscript to a publishing house, believing in her art.

Towards the end, when Raquel and Ares seem to be going through a rough patch, to the extent that it feels like they’re unofficially on a break, Raquel, Yoshi and Daniela decide to embark on a friends night out at a beach party. While initially the three enjoy each other’s company, and Yoshi is overcome with emotions in the company of his friends, the night doesn’t end on a happy note.

Both the girls take off and give into their amorous desires. Daniela is off having a good time with Apollo and the new French guy, while Raquel sneaks out with Gregory. However, soon enough she realises that this isn’t what she wants and was merely acting that way to take her mind off Ares. In another scene, Vera and Ares are also caught alone back at the villa. Vera works her way to seduce him and comfort him by reminding him of their similarities and how she can relate to his sense of alienation back at medical school because she equally felt at a loss without a clear purpose in mind.

Eventually, during the same conversation she lets the truth about the dreadful night slip, and confesses that she and Ares never slept together, rather she lied. In the meantime, back at the beach party, Yoshi feels that he’s been deceived and also regrets having led on Anna despite his feelings for Raquel. Once he realises that he’s been left alone, he grabs the chance to head to the lighthouse and be with Anna. Stealing the same guy’s bike keys who had initially almost bullied him at a party before Anna came to the rescue, he takes off, but ultimately gets consumed by a road rage accident, and falls off the cliff.

In the parallel scene, Ares catches a faint glimpse of someone collapsing by the water, and he races off to help the person, who happens to be Yoshi. He fails to resuscitate his vitals, owing to the severe injuries that were probably already beyond recovery. At the same time, Raquel also reaches the spot and catches sight of her dying best friend. In a later conversation with Ares, she brings up the situation and grudgingly blames him for not being able to help Yoshi. He, too, snaps back at her and puts the blame on her head for keeping him distracted the past year when he could’ve been studying medicine.

The truth is, their relationship was never built on sound foundations and was bound to wither away, owing to its toxic tendencies, but again neither of them actually cheated on the other either. Ares never hooked up with Vera, and nor did Raquel kiss Gregory, but with Yoshi’s death at hand, Raquel completely loses her balance especially since he’d been there for her through thick and thin. Ultimately, Ares leaves for Stockholm and tries to work his way through medical school again.

On the other hand, Raquel sticks it out with Daniela after returning home. Ares almost sends in an apology text to Raquel, but again retracts back, and the lack of communication between them prevails yet again. Gregory, too, tries to reach out to her, but she asks her mother to turn him away, holding on to Daniela.

Later, with Daniela by her side, she also finds out that Yoshi had actually sent in her book’s manuscript in her place, signing off as her agent as he often referred to himself lightheartedly. The truth opens up a new groundbreaking chapter for Raquel with her late friend’s help as she hears back from the publishing house with an affirmative green signal that her book will be published. The movie ends with Raquel finally shutting her window close, reflecting her mental decision of turning away from Ares and closing the door on him.

As for Daniela and Apollo’s relationship, not much is made clear at the end. Since the first movie, Daniela has been trying her hand at keeping things open with him, but the latter seems to want more of an exclusive relationship. The same issue arises this time as well.

Probably the most intriguing and worth digging into storyline was that of Artemis and Claudia, but unfortunately not much happens there either as the most amount of screen time is reserved for Raquel and Ares. During Yoshi’s funeral, Artemis finally comes to realise that he’s been taking Claudia for granted all this time, and that life is short enough already to push his love for her away. Despite sitting beside his overbearing and toxic parents who would never approve of their relationship due to the class divide between them, Artemis finally grabs on to Claudia’s hand, whispering in her ear that he will become the boyfriend she deserves to have and not someone who keeps it all a secret, while his father gravely watches it all unfold.
