This is Us Season 6 Episode 1 Review/Recap Contains Spoilers

This is Us Season 6 Episode 1, ‘The Challenger’ takes us to January 28, 1986, when the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurred. Jack, Rebecca and their 3 kids (Kevin, Kate and Randall) are excited about the space launch. The kids are shown the launch on TV in their school. Sadly, the shuttle blast affects the kids’ minds. Jack and Rebecca find ways to cheer their kids.

At present, it is the 41st birthday of the Big 3. Kevin shifts to Madison’s neighbourhood to look after their twin babies. Madison has become friends after calling off the marriage as Kevin doesn’t love her. Kevin and Kate celebrate their 41st birthday at Kate’s place with Rebecca, Miguel and Nicky. Randall celebrates his birthday with Beth and his daughter.

There is no birthday cheer in the Big 3’s lives. Randall decides to meet the guy who tried to rob his place a year and a half ago. Kevin faces career issues and isn’t happy with Madison’s growing friendship with someone. Kate is missing Toby, who is in San Franciso for his work. Rebecca’s memory loss trouble worsens as she forgets an element of an important chapter of her childhood.

This is Us Season 6 Episode 1, ‘The Challenger’ shows us the impact of the mishap back in 1986 and gives us a short glimpse of how the world of every Pearson is slowly crumbling. The show is known for leaving us sobbing with every episode. While it didn’t make me cry, it ached me to see Rebecca in that situation. At the end of the episode, in the flashback scene, Jack and Rebecca discuss how Randall gets impacted the most by every big situation. Considering how he decides to meet the robber rather than spend time with Beth, that’s true.

The great cast of This is Us is extraordinary as always. But one doesn’t know what to expect. The ending shows that Kate and Toby’s bond is still strong. So what exactly went wrong, and why was she marrying Phillip in the final episode of season 5? I know the makers will take us on an intense and heart-rending journey to get all the answers.
