Does David Find Matthew?

Yes. Throughout the series, one question keeps leaving everyone confused: Is Matthew alive, or is it all part of a huge misunderstanding? Through many backstabbings and shocking confessions, we finally learn in episode 7 that Matthew is still alive, and the body found in his place in 2021 was of another young boy from the Paynes’ orphanage. After waiting years to know the truth, and David going to jail for murdering his own son, the truth finally leaves everyone heartbroken, but eventually, happy.

Who Really Took Matthew?

In a shocking twist, we learn that it was Hayden who had taken Matthew all those years ago. Hayden had an unhealthy obsession with Rachel, and when Cheryl went to the Berg Foundation to get artificially inseminated, she used Rachel’s name to do so. Hayden, who was dying to get back together with Rachel, had Cheryl inseminated with his own sperm, hoping to get back together with her. However, this is where the misunderstanding took place. Moreover, Matthew wasn’t even Hayden’s son, as Cheryl was already pregnant by the time she went through with the procedure, as she mentions that Matthew is actually David’s son.

The revelation transforms this story into something more twisted and dangerous, considering how Hayden has been helping Rachel and David throughout the season. Actually, he had been manipulating them to keep them from the truth.

What Happened on the Night Matthew “Died”?

On the night of the crime, Matthew was secretly swapped out by Hayden, who had drugged David. With Cheryl out of the house thanks to Ronald, it gave him the perfect opportunity. David woke up believing that his son had been murdered and, thanks to Lenny, had been incorrectly framed for burying the murder weapon. It all worked against David in the end, and with his history of sleepwalking, the prosecutor was able to get him in jail for murder.

What Happens to the Villains?

In the end, Hayden and Gertrude try to make a plan to run away, but at the last moment, Rachel lets Hayden know that Matthew isn’t his son. Infuriated at his mother’s deception, he ends up shooting her and then making a run with Matthew, but is eventually killed by Sarah.

Does David Get a Happy Ending?

Thankfully, everything works out in David’s favour as his guilty ruling is overturned and he finally gets out as a free man. Cheryl and Ronald stay together and have a daughter, while David and Rachel ignite a romance, with Matthew now living with them. It’s a bittersweet ending as the entire family share a wonderful relationship with one another, although Matthew and David have to live with the trauma of what happened to them for the last 5 years.

I Will Find You isn’t just a mystery – it highlights how far a father will go to find his child at the slightest hope left, even when the whole world believes otherwise. It reinforces the show’s central theme that, regardless of how long or far the truth is buried, persistence will eventually bring it to light. David’s determination is not just commendable, but it’s hopeful. However, without the help of everyone around him, this discovery wouldn’t have been possible.
