The Uncanny Counter Star Jo Byeong-kyu Confirms New Kdrama Outing? Read More

In one of his most anticipated K-drama releases of the year, Jo Byeong-kyu has finally returned in his supernatural avatar in The Uncanny Counter 2 (경이로운 소문), now streaming on Netflix. The tvN South Korean fantasy thriller series is based on the Daum webtoon Amazing Rumour by Jang Yi, and also stars Kim Se-jeong as Do Ha-na, Yoo Jun-sang as Ga Mo-tak, Yeom Hye-ran as Chu Mae-ok, Ahn Suk-hwan as Choi Jang-mul, Yoo In-soo as Na Jeok-bong, Kang Ki-young as Hwang Pil-kwang, Kim Hieora as Gelli Berherd and others.

The latest news surrounding the 27 year old actor teases the possibility of him starring in a new K-drama series after his currently ongoing title. A South Korean media outlet has reported that he’s presently weighing his options in regards to the opportunity handed over to him. As per the star’s agency HB Entertainment, Byeong-kyu is still reviewing the project (romanised working title – Saeraenadae), and is yet to officially make a remark on the situation.

If he proceeds to go ahead with the idea, he’ll be playing the role of a Joseon Prince named Park Yeong, who disguises himself as a poor, unemployed man in order to get lost among the crowd. The K-drama will feature his leading character caught in a love story. While his plans hinge on escaping the country to find his happiness and freedom, his path is bound to converge with that of a young lady coming from a different background and social status, who ultimately harbours aspirations of becoming successful in the country.

Byeong-kyu, also known as Jo Byeong-gyu or Cho Byeong-kyu, was previously also in talks of starring in the historical drama (genre referred to as “Sageuk”) Secret Royal Inspector and Joy, but had to drop out of the 2021 K-drama star cast due to the alleged bullying accusations against him, which were later disproved. Eventually, 2PM’s Taecyeon went on to play the lead role in his place alongside Kim Hye-yoon. Therefore, once The Uncanny Counter green lights his contribution to the upcoming drama series, it will mark the beginning of his acting career’s first Sageuk feature.
