The Tailor Season 1 Recap: The Turkish drama series (Terzi) premiered on May 2, 2023, on Netflix. The series stars Çagatay Ulusoy in the lead role alongside Sifanur Gül, Olgun Simsek, Salih Bademci and more. Created by Cem Karci, the story is written by Gülseren Budayicioglu and the screenplay is given by Rana Mamatlioglu and Bekir Baran Sitki.
The story follows a gifted designer and tailor who gets entangled in a family drama as secrets try to pour out while he is still trying to escape his own demons.
The Tailor Season 1 Recap
The story has three main characters: Peyami, Dimitri, and Esvet. Peyami is a famous fashion designer, Dimitri, the best friend of Peyami is a businessman and Esvet is the fiance of Dimitri. When Peyami’s loving grandfather dies, his remaining family members that are his grandmother and the differently abled father, decide to live with him. Peyami’s mother abandoned him when he was a child and he’s always hated his father for acting like a kid and embarrassing him.
Hence, he has made an impression in the outer world that he has no father (even Dimitri doesn’t know about it). When they all move together, Peyami asks Suzi to find a caregiver for his father, Mustafa. Since Suzi is the only one who knows this truth, she takes care of arranging everything for Peyami.
Speaking of Dimitri, he is a terrible selfish person who abuses his fiance Esvet. He also lowkey hates Peyami because his father, Ari, prefers Peyami over him since he is smarter. This causes him to be jealous of Peyami but never openly shows it. Esvet is the daughter of Faruq, the business partner of Dimitri’s father, Ari.
Additionally, both Dimitri’s mother and Esvet’s mother are biological mothers, meaning he is set to marry his cousin (incest alert). When Peyami designs Esvet’s wedding dress, Dimitri forces her to try it out. Moreover, Peyami is requested to be blindfolded because according to their culture, the bride shouldn’t be seen.
During the fitting, even Suzi doesn’t see Esvet’s face because the veil covers it. After this event, Esvet overhears Suzi arranging a caretaker for Mustafa and decides to use it as an opportunity to escape from Dimitri. Meanwhile, Peyami gets mad at Suzi for talking about it at Dimitri’s place because he doesn’t want anyone to know that he has a father.

Successfully, Esvet escapes and joins as a caregiver at Peyami’s home, going by the name Firuze. Since nobody has seen Esvet’s face, they agree to let her work as Mustafa’s caregiver. Esvet, now as Firuze, manages Mustafa perfectly since when she was adopted by Faruq and his wife, she had a younger brother who was differently abled. Peyami’s grandmother, that is, Mustafa’s mother likes Firuze and asks her to marry the old Mustafa.
Esvet tells about this to Peyami and he declines it. Dimitri is extremely pissed at Faruq because he let his daughter run away. One day, Dimitri, his father and Faruq visit Peyami to talk about a fashion store’s opening in the US. Peyami warns Firuze to never leave Mustafa because he wants the guests to not know the old man’s existence. However, a curious Firuze/Esvet eavesdrops the conversation only to hear Dimitri talking terribly about her and her family.
Mustafa escapes from his room. When Dimitri goes out to get some air, he catches Mustafa and has a pleasant conversation. Firuze is afraid of her life and remains in the room, knowing Mustafa is out. Peyami and Dimitri have a conversation about Mustafa. When they leave, Peyami fires Firuze for her negligence.
Firuze informs her father about where she was all along and plans a meet with him. Dimitri finds out that Faruq is going to meet his daughter (he doesn’t know that she was at Peyami’s place) and follows him. She somehow escapes again, leaving Faruq to get thrashed by Dimitri, before Ari ends the fight.
Firuze returns to Peyami’s house, meets the grandmother and agrees to marry Mustafa. An overjoyed granny convinces Peyami to allow Firuze to work again. One night when Peyami asks Firuze to try on the wedding dress he made for Esvet, he realises that the girl in front of him is none other than Esvet herself. Esvet comes clean and it disturbs Peyami.
Meanwhile, Dimitri feels that Peyami is hiding Esvet so he pays a visit. Peyami somehow distracts him but the latter catches Esvet’s bracelet at Peyami’s home. Peyami tells that it would have got stuck to the wedding dress. Dimitri and Peyami go to the meeting and they both depart.

Back at home, Peyami asks Esvet to leave to London (he makes arrangements). However both of them already fell in love, in fact, shared a kiss. So they find it hard to make the move. The grandmother knows about it all but remains quiet. She threatens Esvet privately because she cares for her grandson. Dimitri finds that Esvet is indeed at Peyami’s house so he pays another visit. But thankfully, Peyami is already out to a club where he plays as a musician.
Inside his car, Esvet also hops in without his knowledge because she knew that Dimitri was coming. At the club, Peyami tells her about why he is in the band, going by the name, Ziya. Apparently, in a box that Peyami’s grandfather gave, there was information regarding Peyami’s mother and the reason why she left. Peyamis’ mother was also Mustafa’s caregiver. Since she got pregnant, she gave birth and left the work as she wasn’t interested in Mustafa.
At the club, Peyami believes that he will find his mother because, by the hints of his grandfather, he knows his mother comes here. Just as he expects, his mother indeed visits and watches all of his performances, knowing who he is. But she decides to not talk to him for his safety and we don’t know why is that.
Coming back to the search of Esvet, apparently, Dimitri’s parents, Ari and Lia actually adopted Esvet first (technically Dimitri and Esvet are siblings). Once they renamed all the riches of baby Esvet to their name, they dropped Esvet back to the orphanage where Faruq adopted her. It means, that Ari and Lia know who Esvet’s parents are (we’re yet to know that). This is why they want Dimitri and Esvet to marry because the properties of Esvet will become permanently theirs.
Did Peyami Get Shot?
In the end, Peyami’s grandmother hands him his grandfather’s fun for protection but he rejects since he doesn’t want to hurt his brother like friend. However, Esvet grabs hold of it when Peyami faces Dimitri at a place to finish things. Peyami tries to change Dimitri’s mind, but the latter who has always been jealous of Peyami, lets out all his agony. During the heated argument, Esvet shoots at Dimitri but Peyami comes in front of him to protect and gets shot.
Looking at Peyami’s helpless situation, Dimitri realises his mistake and cries over his best friend’s bloody body while Esvet also mourns for her actions.
Is Peyami Dead?
Of course not! Now that they have released The Tailor Season 2 trailer, it’s very much clear that Peyami is alive and there’s more secrets that’s going to come out.
