The Nurse Teaser: Sneak Peek Into Late Night Hospital Hours That May Be Eerier Than They Appear

You can count on Netflix to release all the up and coming series based on true stories, and today’s quota is filled by the Danish TV show The Nurse‘s first teaser on the streaming platform. Based on the novel of the same name written by Kristian Corfixen, the series in turn follows the true story of a Danish nurse who was convicted for a few accounts of attempted manslaughter.

With the concept, storyline and the colour theme of the show reminiscent of Netflix’s previously released English movie The Good Nurse (also based of real-life events) starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain, the upcoming Danish series follows in suit and builds a foreboding ambience for late night hospital shifts. The Nurse stars Josephine Park, Fanny Bernth, Amalie Lindegård and Dick Kaysø, and has been directed by Kasper Barfoed. Dorte W. Høgh and Kasper Barfoed have pitched in as the head writers for the show which has been produced by Nina Leidersdorff and Morten Kjems Hytten Juhl, under the banner of SAM Productions.

Tommy Wildner stands in as the cinematographer and Jeppe Kaas is responsible for the eerie music of the series that will fill us with trepidation. The teaser starts off with Pernille Kurzmann and Christina Aistrup Hansen sitting right across each other at their table as they share their late night hospital shifts. Things seem to be going slow, and then Kurzmann, who’s also a newcomer, suggests checking up on the patients.

She heads out into the dim-lit corridor alone while sensing some silent tensions in the air. All of a sudden, Hansen, her supportive colleague, calls out to her for an emergency, the first one of the kind to be witnessed by the rookie nurse. Pernille grabs the emergency kit as quick as possible and goes back into the patient’s room, who’s experiencing a cardiac arrest. Christina takes charge and guides Pernille through the procedure since it’s her first dealing with such a situation.

Although fidgety and nervous, Pernille tries to stay calm and be of help, and is tutored by Christina on how to give a patient a heart massage at such a time. To help her get into the rhythm and maintain the pace for the same, the more experienced nurse starts chanting Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive, which takes Pernille by surprise, but ultimately helps her find the rhythm and stay focussed.

In the meantime, the team of cardiologists also arrives and takes over. The patient’s health goes back to his former stable state and the nurses can finally exhale a sigh of relief. However, there’s something about Christina that just doesn’t sit right. Now, to find out what that is all about, we’ll have to tune into the series coming out this April.
