The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Episode 5 Recap

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Episode 6 Review A New Magical Girl

This episode was easily one of the most romantic of the season. It began with a unique perspective, showing us the thoughts of the lecherous cat tasked with watching over Mimori. From his point of view, we see how much he underestimated our heroine. He recognized that Mimori was a kind and compliant girl, often willing to give up on the things she liked. He also noted her keen sense of observation, which made her quick to catch on to things, but also easy to manipulate since she rarely grew attached to anything.

However, everything changed when Mimori found someone she truly cared about. No longer was she the passive figure who would follow the cat’s every command.

Meanwhile, Mira was struggling to figure out the perfect gift for his beloved, having exhausted his usual ideas. His underlings then brought him news they thought would please him immensely. When he went to investigate, he found Mimori captured and shackled before him. The scene was comically absurd, as Mira initially reacted with outrage, swiftly punishing his subordinates. But then, he realized he rather enjoyed the situation, and he had to wrestle with a flood of inappropriate thoughts.

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Episode 6 Review A New Magical Girl

In this episode, we finally get introduced to a new character who is going to replace Mimori as the new magical girl. Unlike Mimori, who was very meek and demure, this new girl, Hibana, is extremely different. And it is not even a physical difference but rather a behavioural one. You see her catchphrase that she uses a lot is “Fuck” that too with a string of other profanities following behind. She is also constantly angry at something and shows no attributes of a traditional magical girl.

But it is not because she is bad, it’s just that she’s a massive Tsundere who cannot express her feelings in any other way. When she becomes too embarrassed or doesn’t know what to do, she starts to verbally cuss and physically abuse her mentor, Mr Bird. Thankfully, Mr Bird is not at all as insufferable as the cat Mimori had. Mr Bird is very cautious and careful of Hibana’s well-being.

Hibana is very active as a magical girl because she believes she must complete her duty. From here, we also get proof of her kind-hearted personality underneath all the recurrent “Fucks”. But in one encounter with her enemies, she comes face to face with Mira, who spares no mercy for her. Mira’s only weakness is Mimori, and thus, when it is not her, he obviously takes his enemy down in a single strike. But this also makes him sad, thinking how he might be reprimanded by Mimori for harming her teammate.

Verdict

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies Episode 6 Review A New Magical Girl

Today’s episode did not focus on our couple more, as we got to see a new character who can have a major impact on future incidents.

Hibana is relentlessly funny and I would love to see her talk more in the future. Hopefully, she will not create a problem for our protagonists.
