The longest night is a new Netflix Spanish series, originally titled La noche más larga. At the heart of this story is a serial killer known as Simon, aka Alligator, who, on the night of Christmas Eve, gets arrested and is moved to a psychiatric prison called Baruca. The warden of the prison, Hugo, gets summoned to look over the alligator. Unfortunately, he’s also forced to drag his two kids along with him.
On the other hand, a group of armed men gathers to storm the prison and get Simon Lago out before morning by hook or by crook. And so the mayhem ensues when the warden finds his elder daughter is kidnapped, and to ensure her safety, Simon must be protected and not handed over. This puts Hugo in a tight position where he has to not only protect Simon but also ensure the safety of those inside the prison.

The Longest Night is a perfect series to binge-watch this weekend. It will keep you glued to the screen as the storyline unfolds. The story is really good as there are some nail-biting sequences as the inmates and guards come to blow. The story gets more interesting with the involvement of various inmates, each with their own story and differing degrees of psychological stability. There’s no way you will get bored with this series, but there are a few moments which will seem to be unnecessarily dragged on.
The roles played by Albreto Ammann and Luis Callejo as Hogo and Simon, respectively, are commendable. Albreto was successful in portraying the emotions of a father whose daughter was kidnapped. Luis Callejo is able to make the audience hate him and fear him as to what he will do next.
Summing Up: The Longest Night

It is a psychological thriller that is both suspenseful and action-packed. I think the series was rushed – rather than 6 episodes, there should have been 8-10 episodes to properly build the story. If you like suspense, drama, or thriller, then it is a must-watch. The characters, storyline, and cinematography make the series worth watching.
The Longest Night is streaming on Netflix.
