The Law According to Lidia Poët: All About the Upcoming Italian Period Crime Drama

The Law According to Lidia Poët is an upcoming Italian Period crime mystery drama. The series is created by Guido Iuculano & Davide Orsini and directed by Letizia Lamartire and Matteo Rovere. It is said to be a light procedural drama, reinterpreting the true story of Lidia Poët, Italy’s first female lawyer.

The teleplay is written by Elisa Dondi, Daniela Gambaro & Paolo Piccirillo and the story is brought to the screen by cinematographers Vladan Radovic and Francesco Scazzosi. Inspired by a true story, it tells about the first female lawyer in Italy, of the daily injustices for which she fought, of her fierce defence of the innocent, of the studies and investigations to discover the truth and the revolution that has taken place in the world of jurisprudence thanks to her.

The cast of the series includes Matilda De Angelis in the titular role along with, Eduardo Scarpetta, Pier Luigi Pasino, Sinead Thornhill, Dario Aita and Sara Lazzaro.

The Law According to Lidia Poët Plot/Synopsis

The official synopsis of the series reads, “In this gripping period drama, Lidia Poët investigates murders while fighting to practice law. Inspired by the true story of Italy’s first female lawyer.” Set in Turin in the late 1800s. A ruling by the Turin Court of Appeals declares Lidia Poët’s admission to the bar association unlawful, thus preventing her from practising law simply because she is a woman.

She is left penniless but still full of pride, leading Lidia to secure a job at her brother Enrico’s law firm while she prepares an appeal to overturn the court ruling. In an approach that’s ahead of its time, Lidia assists criminal suspects by searching for the truth behind outward appearances and preconceptions. She gets involved in investigating a murder which could lead to bigger discoveries, which will change the course of crime investigation and law.

Meanwhile, Lidia’s brother-in-law, Jacopo, a mysterious journalist, also passes her information and introduces her to the hidden worlds that lurk beneath a flamboyant Turin. From fighting for women’s rights to changing the jurisdiction, we will get to know the revolutionary story of Lidia Poët in this drama series.
