The Kidnapping Day Ending Explained
Towards the end of the final episode, Ro-hee succeeds in getting a murder confession out of Hye-eun who then uses Ro-hee as bait to escape. However, Myung-joon arrives and consoles Hye-eun who is the same child he had met at the orphanage and wants to be loved more than anyone else.
He soothes her grief and tells her that he has always prayed for her and will never hate her no matter what happens, which leaves Hye-eun bursting out in tears. Hye-eun lets go of Ro-hee and sobs in his arms following which the police reveal her as the real killer of Choi Jin-tae which leaves everyone in shock.

During the interview with the media, questions about Hye-eun eyeing Jin-tae’s research come up but Sang-yoon makes sure to let them know that she was only after his money. Soon, Myung-joon’s trial date arrives and this time Ro-hee asks to make her statements herself as the people in the middle have been changing her statement according to their wishes.
She tells the judge that while it is a fact that Myung-joon has indeed kidnapped her, he never disobeyed her and only made her feel safe throughout their time together. Her statement is not due to any emotional sympathy but simply from the fact that she wishes that he be set free as soon as possible.
Throughout her life, she has never gotten a moment’s worth of freedom, but it was only during her time with Myung-joon that she understood what freedom really is. Thus, no matter what is thought of her kidnapper, she only wishes for him to be set free.
After this, she meets Eun-sun outside the courtroom and hands her a note which contains information she gathered from her father’s records. She hopes that it can be of help to Eun-seun, but she also reminds her that the life of a genius is not any easier. Later, she returns home where Taek-kyun hands her a gift from Myung-joon.

It is a wooden back-scratcher with the words “To my filial daughter Ro-hee” engraved on it which reminds Ro-hee of a similar wooden scratcher that she picked up when she first met Myung-joon. Now, sitting alone in her empty house, she bursts out in tears while missing the man who made her feel warmth for the first time.
We then see a flashback of Sang-yoon’s meeting with Park Cheol-won after which he remembered the events of the fateful night. He remembers entering Choi’s house to see Jin-tae stabbed by a sword and Hye-eun sitting in a corner with blood all over her. She then called out to him with a whimper and asked for help.
Cheol-won then quickly told her to change into his spare uniform and leave in his vehicle while he took care of things. However, she soon sees him coming out with Ro-hee on his back and finds out that she had seen him near the crime scene. Hye-eun then pulls him into the lab and injects Ro-hee with a drug which makes her sleep again and this is how Ro-hee came out alive from this incident.

Back in the present, Ro-hee makes sure to regularly visit Myung-joon and during one of these visits, she tells him of her plan to have Hee-ae go to an international school. While Myung-joon is annoyed by Ro-hee’s attitude, he accepts her plan and also puts in his idea to have Ro-hee attend school as well.
Ro-hee is surprised by this and reminds him that she doesn’t need to go to school, however, Myung-joon insists that she needs to go to school at least to improve her social skills. Ro-hee is annoyed by this but does not disagree, however, she then thanks and apologises to him for not being able to help him more than this.
Myung-joon understands her mood and pulls her cheeks to lighten the mood when she hits his head with the wooden scratcher and the atmosphere instantly lightens. Thus, Ro-hee continues to visit Myung-joon and waits until the day he is released from prison while Myung-joon makes sure she never leaves sad after meeting him.

Soon, Ro-hee begins school with Hee-ae and gives a very stiff self-introduction in class when she remembers Myung-joon’s words and changes her self-introduction. She finally begins the life of a normal 12-year-old child with a smile, while elsewhere Eun-sun reaches one of the locations mentioned in Ro-hee’s note to her.
There she is taken to a classroom where a girl is solving advanced maths problems on the board. However, the real shock appears when Eun-sun sees the girl’s face which is similar to that of Ro-hee’s. This opens up a series of new mysteries as the girl who introduces herself as Elena can either be Ro-hee’s twin or a project that Jin-tae told no one about.
