Hulu’s original series The Handmaid’s Tale finale has ignited a whirlwind of reactions from all possible frontiers. The series takes its final bow this week, bidding adieu to a nightmarish future reality that has constantly given viewers anxiety in more ways than one. The season delivers a blend of suspense, emotional depth and unexpected reunions that make us wary and excited for what’s to come next.
The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian drama series created by Bruce Miller and is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale Finale: Road to Freedom?
As the series comes to a natural end, the last episode, simply titled The Handmaid’s Tale, culminates June Osborne’s harrowing journey over these 6 seasons through the dystopian world of Gilead. The chilling portrayal of a totalitarian society that subjugated women under the guise of religious piety has been a hit with viewers for years. It’s kept us hooked to what happens to these innocent women who just want their freedom instead of being used as slaves.
June Osborne’s character has been the one that viewers followed throughout these years, and we have watched her transform from a compliant Handmaid into a fierce symbol of resistance who is hell-bent on winning the freedom that these women desire. The season finale has intensified this narrative as it winds the story down, focusing on the aftermath of June’s escape and the escalating rebellion against Gilead’s oppressive regime.
In the penultimate episode, titled Execution, we get some shocking twists and turns, including some surprising deaths, setting the stage for a dramatic and emotionally charged finale. Most viewers were excited for what’s to come, but more so to see Gilead up in flames! One user, @cinemamilfs, wrote, “There is nothing more satisfying than watching Gilead burn to the ground.”

Season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale episode 10, however, has also received some flak. One user wrote, @Gabuchogram – “@TheHandmaidsTale overstayed its welcome and the series finale is a miss for me but it’s one of the better seasons. They needed to take their time if they were gonna bring characters back. It’s way too rushed and preoccupied with setting up The Testaments. The final scene YIKES.”
A lot of viewers similarly found the ending of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Episode 10 to be lacklustre and missing the finale energy that would stay with them long after the series is over. The mixed reaction might also be a response to the more emotional storytelling in the last episode, focusing on introspection and emotional closure. One user wrote, @praisebejune – “so nice to know that a war criminal who supported and helped to create a system that separated countless children from their mothers has ZERO freaking consequences in the end… great message (contains irony, OF COURSE)”
