Final Destination: Bloodlines brings back the central conceit that made the series iconic: you can’t cheat death. But this time, the film leans heavily into lore and legacy, exploring a new angle through a family connected to the original tragedy that started it all.
The story follows college goer Stefani, who suddenly starts to see premonitions about her grandmother Irene getting into a devastating accident that killed hundreds of people through a building collapse. When she goes to talk to Irene to get to the bottom of her nightmares, she realises that Death itself is out to get her and her entire family one by one. Death has a new design, and no one is getting out alive!
Twitter users were quick to note the balance between the franchise’s trademark tension and its attempt to add depth through backstory while praising a very gory and very elaborate opening premonition scene. Fans also praised the practical effects and the creative ways all the gore and the deaths are brought to life. The special effects were also a talk of the town. However, maybe the biggest positive feedback was for actor Richard Harmon, who played Erik in the film. His comedic timing got most people hollering in the theatre. Twitter user @rxbeccajohnson wrote, “if #FinalDestinationBloodlines proves anything, it’s that Richard Harmon deserves to be a bigger name in horror. he’s the best part of this movie for sure, and reminded of his incredible turns in Grave Encounters 2 and The 100. more of him on the big screen, please! ????”
And, of course, how can anyone ever forget Tony Todd’s iconic cameo and throwbacks to previous films? There was a flurry of tweets about Todd’s last appearance on-screen before his death, and we, too, can’t help but shed a tear for the loss of a huge legend. Twitter user @scytheslayr wrote, “can we PLEASE talk about how the franchise set up Kimberly from the 2nd movie to carry on Tony’s role within the universe!!! With great practical effects and fleshed-out, relatable characters, this movie has easily become one of the best of the franchise.
