The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn As A Typical Nobody Episode 8 Review- Nothing Holds Interest

The previous episode of The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody showcased the start of the school festival in the Academy of Magic. School festivals are usually a fun and eventful part of anime (good or bad, depending on the genre) taking place at the school level. There is a clear demarcation between the general atmosphere in the series before the festival and during it. Sadly, the episode last week showed us that Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou Murabito A ni Tensei suru is going to march at its usually slow-paced rhythm, and the new episode is not much different from this either.

The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody Episode 8 brought the masked villain we have been hinted at for a long time onto the screen. Sylphy was his tool from the very beginning, as he had specifically sent her to the same Academy as Ard, even going as far as revealing Ard’s reincarnated self from the past. We also are aware that Sylphy is from Ard’s past, and the masked villain has to be, too, as he seems to know a lot about the Demon Lord Varvatos, his current form, and hints at Sylphy that she had known him as her comrade. These facts have been stated outright and have been the plot till now.
All things seem to fall flat in Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou Murabito A ni Tensei suru Episode 8, especially the plot and the animation. This series has a history of using bright lights and giant circles of spells as a way of representing magic and fights. The animation sucks, but at least the flashiness shows effort. This episode had the fight between the Demon Lord and Sylphy (and the masked man). And disappointingly, just swords shaking in the air. The people from the same past should have known better than taking on the Demon Lord, but yet, stupidly barge into the fight, crumbling the plot.

The school play was no better. The play was expected to be something comical because of the background music, but we are teleported back to the time when Ard was Varvatos. Although the events happening in this past might be weakly argued to be funny, Varvatos stands out. His personality seems the same as he has now as the ordinary villager Ard. This begs the question- how exactly did the demon lord, who reincarnated as a human with the sole goal of making friends, try to change his personality?

Things could have improved so much with The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody Episode 8. No conversation held much influence. Ard’s flashy transformation to Varvatos was completely taken out. The play was cut short within seconds. Lydia had no personality, just a few dialogues. The masked villain was just too weak and ignorant. The music seemed to indicate an intense war, but this might be the smallest big-scale war scene I have ever witnessed in an anime. Ginny and Ireena’s tag-team duo just seem to be serving the purpose of the protagonist’s harem. Yeah, nothing much positive to say here.

Prognosis
The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody Episode 8 had writing so bad it contradicted many of its previous plot points. From terrible characters to poor animations, this might be one of the weakest episodes in the series.
