The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17- The Review

Druj vs Magical Girl The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17

Let us ask ourselves this important question before starting with the latest episode of Jahy-Sama- Is there a point to any of this, or is the series just going to go on like this forever at the cost of gradually losing any interest it once had? It doesn’t need to have a focus, as plenty of slice of life anime doesn’t. However, it is high time that we start demanding something substantial from this particular anime, for it has been treading water for way too long.

There are 3 episodes left after this one to wrap up the story and send off our characters in their merry ways. In that manner, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17 felt more like it should have been episode 7 of the show and not any later. The one silver lining of this is that the anime was doing well at that point, and this episode was the same quality. It was a fine episode with a lot of good things about it.

Sleeping The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17

Despite her being very played out and one-note in this episode, Druj is still a wonderful character that enhances every scene that she’s in. Her storylines are all really similar and usually involve her being at least a little dumb, which can get grating after a while. She continued her rivalry with Jingu, and it is still very cliched, boring, and predictable. At least the dark lord didn’t make an appearance in this one. That is always a plus.

The Boss and Landlord section of the story was also unoriginal but still relatively fun and harmless. It demonstrated Jahy’s newfound self-awareness and her realisation of how much she has grown in her time in that realm. The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17 did well by Jahy, giving her the perfect reactions and moments to fit her arc of evolving as a character. Whether they involved dealing with Druj. Jingu, or the Sisters, Jahy was great at it.

Jahy Sama Episode 17 also gave Saurva’s story an interesting twist, and it is a fine direction to take her character in. That was the only point in the story that remotely felt like it pointed towards an end to the show, and one is left asking, “Where’s more”? Why are we still so involved with buying a Futon, of all things? This is becoming somewhat of a habit because I hope that the next episode brings some more context and answers.

The music has been the same since Episode 1 of the show, and it has also started to feel a bit stale as the episodes move forward. They are good quality songs, but they would have been even better with some new tracks thrown in once in a few episodes. The only thing that got changed was utter garbage, and there has perhaps never been a more disconnected and awful opening. Can we please bring the first one back?

Verdict

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 17 was utterly middle of the road, as a standalone entity and part of a bigger story. Time to kick the plot in high gear, perhaps?
