The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 2 Review

Previously, Kapil had Ranbir Kapoor and other two Kapoor family members as their first guests and the episode didn’t do excellently but was a watchable one. We had hoped that from next episode onwards something much entertaining would drop in and it didn’t happen. In the second episode, the viewers were treated to a star-studded lineup as cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer graced the stage amidst the ongoing IPL fervour.

The audience were completely hyped especially the cricket lovers. Though the audience loved the show (since they’re literally present there and have to react), it failed to impress the viewers. Except for laughter, cringe-worthy moments were high. As usual, Sunil Grover, came up with his own mono skit to entertain the guests and the crowd. Known for his comedic prowess, he attempted to inject humour through cross-dressing, which is something that’s been repeated literally everywhere. Additionally, his jokes seemed too uncomfortable, to be honest.

As the episode progressed, Kapil Sharma, made his moves to salvage the situation however even his comedic genius seemed to falter amidst the onslaught of double-meaning jokes and tired punchlines (we’re super tired of repeated lame adult jokes!). The atmosphere in the studio grew increasingly strained, with guests Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika visibly uncomfortable with the adult humor.

Despite the comedic missteps, there were moments of genuine entertainment interspersed throughout the episode. Thanks to the conversation between the guests and Kapil Sharma, the show didn’t seem extremely uncomfortable and irritable but rather just felt like an uh moment and then proceeded to a nice warm ending.

Did Sunil Grover salvage what he did? Thankfully, yes. He returned as an eccentric engineer, Chumbak, who injected much-needed energy and laughter into the proceedings. Grover’s impeccable comic timing and eccentric character portrayal breathed new life into the show, eliciting genuine laughter from the audience and cast members alike. His interactions with Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer added a playful dynamic to the episode, showcasing the comedic chemistry between the trio.

The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 2 Review Still 1

As the episode drew to a close, viewers were left with mixed feelings. On one hand, there were moments of genuine conversation and entertainment. On the flip side, the repeated jokes and uncomfortable humour detracted from the overall viewing experience, leaving many wondering about the show’s direction and future.

Overall the show can do much better with spontaneous jokes and something that’s family-friendly. The show has the potential to reclaim its status as a comedic powerhouse if it stops with the recycled jokes and of course the cross-dressing.

The Great Indian Kapil Show is streaming now on Netflix.
