The Golden Spoon Poster Reveals BTOB Yook Sung-jae and Yeon-woo Donning a Crown

The Golden Spoon is an upcoming South Korean drama series set to be released on MBC TV in September. It is directed by Song Hyun-wook and based on the webtoon of the same name by HD3 which was published in 2016. The series will follow the story of Lee Seung-cheon, a child born in a poor family, who changes fate with a friend who was born in a wealthy family through a golden spoon and becomes an acquired gold spoon.

MBC drama has released its group poster with its ensemble cast which includes Kpop group BTOB’s Yook Sung-jae as Lee Seung-cheon, Jung Chae-yeon as Na Joo-hee, Yeonwoo as Oh Yeo-jin and Lee Jong-won as Hwang Tae-yong. The drama will surround these four leads and in the poster, we can see them sitting on the royal gold chairs against a dark background.

We can see the crown clearly in Yook Sun-jae and Yeon-woo’s hands, however, there’s a golden highlight on Lee Jong-won’s head and Jung Chae-yeon’s hand. Does that refer to them loosing their golden crown aka spoon in the drama?

The drama, The Golden Spoon, tends to be a comment on the social hierarchy and asks if you would trade your poor but loving family for a life of riches. When Seung Cheon gets his hands on a magical spoon that allows him to switch lives with his rich best friend, he thinks it’s a no-brainer.

But life-altering decisions are always accompanied by a sense of doubt, and with only three chances to change his mind, Seung Cheon has to decide which of his two possible futures is worth keeping. Lee Seung-cheon is a student who dreams of turning his life around with a golden spoon.

And Hwang Tae-yong will be his best friend, who goes back and forth between the life of a gold spoon and an earth spoon regardless of his will. Their decisions will decide who will lead what kind of life. To explain the gold spoon, earth spoon concept, in South Korea, people who are born into rich families are said to be the one with gold spoons, since they already have it all.

While people born in the lower hierarchy or with less wealth are said to be born with silver spoon and earth spoons respectively. The Golden Spoon is set to show the contrasting lives between the two. Along with the group poster, MBC drama also released individual character posters on Instagram.
