The Glory Review: Song Hye-kyo’s Ruthless Revenge Has Only Just Begun

The Glory Review: The Glory (더 글로리) is finally here and this revenge Kdrama is the perfect end to 2022 which also makes it a drama to not miss! Directed by Ahn Gil-ho, Song Hye-kyo leads the drama alongside Lee Do-hyun, Im Ji-yeon, Park Sung-hoon, Yeom Hye-ran, Jung Sung-il, and other cast members.

The Glory brings the story of a young architect aspirant who after severe bullying has to drop out of school. Later, while her bullies lead a happy and everyday life; she creates a road for revenge after intricate planning through the years and by becoming the homeroom teacher of her bully’s child.

The Glory Review

The Korean drama we have been waiting for since it released its first look, The Glory, has made its way into our must-watch lists long back. And I have to say that the intriguing plot that arrives with some brutal bullying is something that you will not be able to ignore as it pulls you in right from the beginning.

While this is just the first part and doesn’t really have much of the “revenge” we had been looking forward to, it did lay the groundwork for the plot and brought us to the beginning of the real face-slapping that we are looking forward to.

What really made me love this show was that while some revenge plots make us feel bad for the real perpetrators at some point, this drama has done an impeccable job of not letting us feel bad about the victim’s revenge throughout whatever she does. And Song Hye-kyo has really stood out well with her performance as she shows us various colours with her expressions.

From the fearless victim out for revenge to a damaged girl who can never forget what happened to her through those years and suffers each day while recollecting those painful memories. As she mocks the naivety that some people carry in this show, her appearance as she continues to stay true to her revenge brings us to a reality that makes more sense.

On the other hand, Im Je-yeon’s villainous character stands out for us all as she shows her cruelty to us along with her fears that her dream may collapse. Lee Do-hyun also leaves his mark on us all, as his sweet character is not just sweet but also carries a hint of wickedness, as he carries the dream of murdering the person who killed his father.

While these actors have won our hearts with their performances, their younger versions have also done a marvellous job. This especially holds for Jung Ji-so and Shin Ye-eun, who have brought out the right vibes while playing the roles of a victim and her bully respectively. Their scenes together really fill us with anger and pain, which makes us see how bad bullying can get.

Summing Up

The Glory part 1, lays the groundwork for a revenge plot that has been intricately planned by Song Hye-kyo’s character while giving us a glimpse of what is to happen in the upcoming season. Highlighting the bullying that took place and bringing out the victim’s determination for revenge, we are now ready for the real battle.

Altogether, the drama has definitely caught my attention and makes me eager for The Glory part 2, which will complete the revenge plot. However, I hope that this drama will also bring an after story of what happens to the victim after she achieves her wish for revenge.

The Glory is a K-drama worth recommending to others to watch or just binge-watch ourselves.

Watch The Glory on Netflix.
