The Girls at the Back (Las de la última fila) is a Spanish drama comedy series released on Netflix, in which five friends plan a series of chaotic bucket-list challenges for their annual vacation after one of them learns she has cancer. The series is written and directed by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo and produced by Atípica Films. There are 6 episodes in total with a runtime of about 45 minutes.

The Girls at the Back Ending Explained
The Girls at the Back is the story of five 30-year-olds, close friends since school, who organize a one-week getaway together every year without exception. This year, something has come up that will force them to invent new rules of the game – One of them has been diagnosed with cancer. The series shows that there are trips that change your life forever and there are lives that change your trips forever.

Carol, Olga, Sara, Alma and Leo travel from Madrid to Cadiz, where things get frisky when they tackle their first bucket-list challenge of the week. They had to kiss a girl, which leads them to a club where Carol ends up sleeping with a bride at her bachelor party, Olga has a threesome with David, Leo makes out with a girl from the club and so does Alma.
Leading to their next challenge of doing drugs together, turning into unexpected chaos and a few minor injuries. Things get a little criminal on the third day of the trip. The women take a ride on a sailboat and cross paths with an exciting celebrity neighbour. The excitement makes them go a step further and Sara ends up stealing Rigoberta Bandini’s guitar.
The guilt of the crime makes Sara anxious and the group end up fighting and throwing the wishes box in the swimming pool. They then write the same wishes again and pick up the next challenge of trying to resolve unfinished business. For that, the group goes in search of an old friend named Palo, who was a part of their group.
However, Palo slept with Jon, who was Olga’s ex and things went downhill from thereon. Initially being shunned by Palo, the group try to resolve other issues in their lives. Alma and Sara explore new territory in their relationship, as they finally confess their true feelings. Olga contacts Jon, whom she left in an instant after being together for 4 years.
While Leo contacts her mother, who had separated from her father at a young age. We get to know how Leo’s father is now suffering from Alzheimer’s and craves the french toast made by the mother. The toast recipe becomes the connecting point for Leo and her mother. Carol also connects with all the people she had blocked because of her husband or for other reasons.
They eventually have a conversation with Palo which ends on a fairly friendly term. Following that, a full day of mandatory truth-telling pushes everyone, to be honest with each other. Carol deals with a crisis at home where she thinks that Ruben is cheating on her but it was actually his plan to get a reaction from her. It makes her think about her marriage and plans a surprise outing of paragliding.

All five friends later discussed each other’s shortcomings and how they needed to work on themselves. Alma broke up with her girlfriend, Rebe, as she knew that their relationship was not working but did not dare confront the situation. At last, she decided to admit the truth. Olga also breaks up with David as the two agreed that due to the distance, it was better to end it on a good note.
On the last day of vacation, the women begin to envision returning to their lives in Madrid and find the perfect way to remember their time together. Before leaving, they found another note that had ‘this too shall pass’ written on it. All the friends had acted in a school play of the same name.
They get matching tattoos of the quote to honour their friendship and the hardships that were to come in future. While we get to see Olga and Carol saying that they have cancer, the person who was actually going for chemotherapy after the vacation was Leo. On the day of her treatment, all her friends came to the hospital to support her.
Here we get to know who wrote what wishes and that every wish was something Leo had wanted to do at some point in her life. They wrote keeping her in mind and Leo says that she was glad that she was the one to get cancer since others have families of their own, which need them. Sara and Alma also decide to not pursue their relationship more than being friends.
While Carol realises how toxic and manipulative her marriage is, the decision lies with her, whether she will get out of it or try to work on it. Olga also clearly misses David but this is what she has chosen for herself and decides to stick with her independence.
