This series has garnered quite the hype after its release. And the credit surely goes to good animation, a relatable male lead and a bunch of beautiful anime girls who are sure to start waifu wars.

The anime is directed by Nakanishi Kazuya, who is also famous for his work with Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai SeikatsuTrinity SevenStrike the Blood, etc. Nexus studio is handling the animation, which despite not being very famous in its field, is delivering satisfactory results as of now.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

The Eminence in Shadow Episode 4 Review – Royal Blood

Things just got much more interesting with new characters, unsuspecting betrayals and lofty goals presented all in one episode. Episode 4, in the very beginning, showed us the whereabouts of Princess Alexia and what has actually happened to her. Our suspicions were right, she got kidnapped not by our protagonist but by a lunatic. A mad scientist who will do anything to get his hands on the royal blood so that he can achieve his ultimate experiment goals.

On the other side, her fake boyfriend, Cid, is not doing too well. Being accused as a potential kidnapper, he is facing tremendous treatment from the Knights. But it was hilarious to see him competing for the position of the best side character with them by playing the role of a scared victim who knows nothing.

From these scenes, we can pretty much ascertain that nothing can faze our hero. He is living in his own world and is absolutely content with his delusions. The farce that he started as a knight of the shadow is something that he will continue by hook or crook. And what motivates this display is the constant support from his team of skilled girls who are absolutely in awe of his persona.

But that is not all, this episode also gives us a glimpse of the power of the guild that Cid has created. His influence is not to be trifled with, along with the power of his subordinates, who were able to create chaos throughout the city successfully.

But beware, you might get surprised by a shocking revelation by the end of the episode. At least I was, even though I had some inclination towards such a revelation, in the future. Thus, I will not spoil this part for the readers and ask you to watch it yourself.

All in all, it was a fun episode where we got a bit more story behind the goal of many characters. The comedy is good and the characters are quirky enough to hold your attention. But it is an anime truly for the harem isekai lovers, so if you are someone who is expecting a complex storyline with great character building, you might be disappointed. Hoping you know what you are going in for, I will declare this episode as an entertaining watch.

Verdict

As I mentioned before, till now, the anime has delivered a classic isekai harem anime, ticking all the tropes and more. It does not promise something extraordinary and follows its own pace to narrate the journey of the adventures of its overpowered protagonist. But again, it serves its purpose of providing entertainment, and I believe isekai harem lovers will enjoy it. If you have not watched this anime yet, watch it on Netflix.
