The Elusive Samurai Episode 3 Recap

This episode starts with Tokiyuki travelling towards the place where he will establish his domain and train to become a better warrior. Along the way, he expresses gratitude to his new helpers, Kojiro and Ayako, and pledges to fight for his claim, dramatically tossing his sword into the sky—an epic moment with a comedic twist typical of the series.

Tokiyuki traverses vast plains and arrives at the Suwa Grand Shrine, Yorishige’s domain. Though the shrine is not large, it holds significant power and influence. However, Tokiyuki remains sceptical about Yorishige’s ability to help him achieve his goals. Yorishige acknowledges Tokiyuki’s doubts and, in a dramatic display, demonstrates his power, proving his worthiness as an ally. Despite declaring himself a god, Yorishige quickly reverts to his quirky and playful behaviour.

This episode emphasizes the crucial role retainers play in a lord’s life. They are pillars of strength, reflecting the lord’s influence and power. Tokiyuki, having lost his family and been betrayed by others, must build a new team of loyal retainers. Kojiro, a top swordsman destined to become a military commander, Ayako, known for her physical strength and artistic talent, and Shizuku, Yorishige’s adopted daughter skilled in secret tactics, form this new team.

In the second half of the episode, Tokiyuki bonds with his retainers and faces challenges without adult intervention. With Shizuku’s analysis and the others’ combat skills, they work together to overcome their enemies, showcasing their growing unity and strength.
