The Doomsday Cult of Antares de la Luz: What is it Based On?
The true story of this thrilling documentary film is based on Chilean musician Ramón Gustavo Castillo Gaete’s doomsday-oriented religious sect in which he was known as the second coming of Jesus Christ and was known as Antares de la Luz. Gaete and one of his cult members, 25-year-old Natalia Guerra, had a child in 2012, whom he believed to be the Antichrist and in a heartbreaking incident, immolated the infant in a bonfire as a human sacrifice. His twisted reasoning was that he wanted to stop the supposed end of the world on December 21, 2012. In the end, after the crime was reported, Gaete ended his own life in order to avoid arrest.
Previous to this heinous crime, Gaete and his 12-member cult often performed animal sacrifices in preparation for the end of the world but, after the monstrous murder of his own infant, he told his followers that the date for the end of the world will now take place 10 days after the original date. Unfortunately, the end never came, which made some of the members suspicious and lose faith in him and it prompted them to go to the authorities after leaving the cult.
