The Clearing Episode 4 Ending Explained

Just like the previous episodes, The Clearing Episode 4 goes back and forth in time to tell us what happened to The Kindred after the raid and, what is Freya doing currently. We saw Anton visit Matriah at the end of the last episode and, in this episode, we find out that he is actually living with her. For what though?

In The Clearing Episode 4, Freya is able to deduce that Anton is the one responsible for the kid who has gone missing in the present timeline. Although the missing child is actually found in the episode, Freya is sure that Anton and Matriah are up to more mischief and madness that will embrace the town and its people.

She isn’t far from wrong though because the episode ends with Anton coming to his house with Billy. One can presume that Freya is unaware of it and, so the next child that will go or has gone missing in the town is hers. It is a symbolic scene as Anton walks in with Billy right when we see Dr. Lathan talking about reopening the world they had created so long ago aka a rebirth of The Kindred.

In the past timeline, the story is closed with Henrik confessing to kidnapping Sara. The reason he gives to the police is that he has always wanted a daughter and this was his best chance at it. He, however, proclaims that The Kindred had nothing to do with Sara’s kidnapping which we know is untrue. He takes the fall for Matriah as one can see and, in the future there has been no one around him (with only Freya being the one to visit him ever).

  1. Thanks for your recap That is not Billy at the end. I think that is Anton’s wife and son. I think this whole Thailand story is made up. He has been doing just fine and hiding in plain sight. I don’t understand why Max went so willingly with Anton.
