The Art of Sarah Ending Explained
The season opens with a dead body found near the Samwol Department Store, prompting Detective Park Mu-gyeong to jump right into the case. The first order of business is finding out who was killed, and after they find a luxury bag beside the body, they trace the serial number to Jung Yeo-jin, the CEO of Nox. She was apparently a close friend of the deceased, now identified as Sarah, and had given her the bag as a gift.
From her and from the eventual episodes, we piece together Sarah’s identity, who seems to be a con artist with different names and jobs. Mu-gyeong continues to try to piece together the clues, although he can’t quite understand how the different pieces fit together.

Who was the victim? Who killed her?
The decomposed body found in the sewer was first identified as Sarah Kim after police found the expensive handbag next to the body belonging to Yeo-jin. However, as it turns out, the real victim was Kim Mi-jeong, someone who worked for Sarah making Boudoir bags. Mi-jeong, after striking up a friendship with Sarah, started to impersonate her and, over the course of it, realised that Sarah was running this extremely successful luxury bag company.
Overcome with resentment and jealousy, she decided that she wanted everything for herself, considering she was the one who made the bags, and ended up in an altercation with Sarah during Boudoir’s launch party. Sarah eventually kills her and then disfigures her to save her company’s reputation.

Who is the real Sarah?
At the end of the runtime, we never know what the real Sarah Kim’s identity is. In episode 8, although we see all of the identities that Sarah had used to find her way to the top, we never know which of them is the truth. She eventually tells the truth to Mu-gyeong, but the audience never learns it. Every iteration of hers throughout the years has reinvented her in some way or another and, we must also consider whether she truly knows who she is at this point.
What happens to Sarah in the end?

In the end, the real Sarah assumes Mi-jeong’s identity so that the latter can take the fall for the murder and Boudoir’s reputation can be saved, with the company having been transferred over to NOX as the biggest shareholder. She threatens that Mu-gyeong technically has only two options – he either lets her go as a free woman as Sarah, or puts her behind bars for the murder as Mi-jeong. She played her cards well and eventually saved the only thing that ever mattered to her, one that was a reflection of herself, while sacrificing herself. She is eventually sent to prison, but it seems like she is happy with the outcome.
