In this game show, host Patton Oswalt brings forth questions of different complexities, but those that are based on applying logic, reasoning skills and common sense. As the number of contestants goes down after each round, starting with questions that 90% of the population of America can answer, each episode is left with only a few contestants who must answer a question that only 1% of the population can answer, in hopes of winning $100,000.
Prime Video adapts the British gameshow hosted by Lee Mack that entertained viewers for years. Adapted previously in many countries, this show is a fun and entertaining watch and is pretty cut-and-dry, with questions that don’t require you to remember any facts or figures – which is always a fantastic thing. The series doesn’t waste any time behind unnecessary conversations but still has some humour sprinkled in. The highlight is the questions and we breeze through them efficiently, so it never lingers enough for you to be bored at any point (thankfully).

The series is a wonderful exercise as well and viewers can go through the questions and make a game night out of it by trying to solve the questions together. Interestingly enough, there truly aren’t any questions that require you to have a ton of knowledge about anything and all the questions test your logical reasoning skills, which is quite fun. Host Patton Oswalt is quite charming and has an easy flow to him, although his humour isn’t always the best. That being said, he keeps things flowing well and doesn’t linger on his doozies so you don’t have to cringe for too long.
At the end of the day, the series is a low-stakes watch without many frills. The questions are interesting and make you think out of the box sometimes, which is also great. All the thinkers out there can have a swell time, especially with your families, to crack the different questions and get to the right answers. It’s a show that everyone can take part in, which isn’t something we see a lot. Oswalt is a good host, but his jokes aren’t always the best. Regardless, it’s entertaining and somehow reminds me of the time when we used to watch game shows on the TV.
The 1% Club Review: Final Thoughts
This is a fun and entertaining watch, especially for game show lovers who like solving stuff while the show is on. It has that old-school charm that we used to see more often in the past and feels nostalgic as well. Although this might not be everyone’s next favourite thing to watch, The 1% Club is delightful and makes you think – which is always a win.
