Terror Tuesday: Extreme Review
The different flavours that horror anthologies bring to the table are unlike any others. There’s something in there for everything and Netflix’s newest Thai horror series is no different – with 8 different stories of terror, the series keeps viewers entertained with its hefty runtime of 45 minutes per episode.

The first episode, titled Our Little Sister, follows a woman who tragically loses her sister in an accident, followed by Wedding Dress, in which a new seamstress at a wedding dress shop learns quickly that something is very wrong in her new workplace. The third episode, An Ode to My Family, showcases a family moving to a new house that has some shocking secrets, followed by The Vow where a couple must confess all of the secrets that they have kept from one another to not be haunted by an vengeful goddess.
Episode 5, Spectral Class, deals with a teacher who finds herself in a hazy world of the occult when she decides to visit her student. Episode 6, titled Girl Next Door, focuses on a drug-addicted man who is pulled into shocking scenarios when his neighbour slips him an odd note. Episode 7 is titled Dear Granny and showcases how, after disappearing suddenly, a grandmother comes back home… but something feels different. Lastly, episode 8, titled Viral Curse, showcases a mother’s desperate attempt to protect her daughter when the events from a radio programme start to affect their lives.

The problem with Terror Tuesday: Extreme is that there have been several anthologies in the past dealing with terrifying tales that are much scarier than it. With 8-long episodes, there comes a time when the lack of scares makes you feel rather bored and confused because you wait constantly for the chills to run down your spine but they never do. It’s not to say that the series is bad – in fact, I think it’s a mildly creepy and enjoyable ride to watch with the family. However, for horror fans who want to be left sleepless at night, the series leaves much to be desired.
All 8 episodes vary from slightly creepy to disappointingly dramatic and most can be brushed away with the excuse of a mental health crisis. From life-altering trauma to superstitious beliefs, there are very few episodes in the series that can make you feel like you are watching a supernatural show. Although, yes, there is something unexplained in every episode that borders on the supernatural, most can be explained by visiting a doctor. The ones that cannot are quite fun to watch and there are even moments of terror seeping in here and there but none reach that level of thrill that you’d desperately want which is such a shame.

Of course, horror is subjective – what’s scary to me might not be scary to you and vice versa but even objectively I feel like the series could’ve done a much better job with its various stories and brought forth something fresh. The fact that so many of these stories are just so predictable and repetitive will rub you the wrong way more than once. So many of the episodes hint at what is supposed to happen in the end and you can figure out exactly what that is right then and there. There’s no space for being shocked and the twists are stale and uninteresting.
Of course, again, not all the episodes are the same. Some do leave an impression on you, not in a horrific way but definitely emotionally. The special effects help in that regard as well and are done quite well, such that you fall right into the story sometimes. There are also some important topics brought up that leave a scar on your mind but the series definitely drops the ball when it comes to gripping you with horror. There’s especially a lot of discussion surrounding mental health struggles, abuse and other issues that can destroy a person’s life and although those things are terrible and fear-inducing, the presentation doesn’t make it terrifying in any capacity.
All the actors, though, do a fantastic job in their roles. Although the stories aren’t always terrifying, the performances convey a different feeling and you can’t help but be transported into these stories thanks to the actors. Every episode, albeit without many chills, has some very talented cast who will command your attention in every scene.
Final Thoughts

There’s nothing extreme about Terror Tuesday: Extreme but it definitely has some good episodes. Although most of the episodes aren’t scary or thrilling, there are some which will definitely impact you emotionally. There are scarier shows out there, but this one will turn out to be an entertaining time with friends and family.
