With the latest entry in the show, it’s time to look into the Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 8 Review. Ted Lasso is an original Apple TV+ series developed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. The series stars Sudeikis as Lasso, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, Hannah Waddhingham as Rebecca Welton, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt, Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Nick Mohammed as Nathan Shelley, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, and Anthony Head as Rupert Mannion, with Jodi Balfour having entered as Jack Danvers, alongside others.

Premiering on May 3, 2023, Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 8, titled ‘We’ll Never Have Paris’ has a runtime of 54 minutes with a synopsis that reads, “While watching Henry, Ted fight the urge to spiral when Michelle and Dr Jacob go on a romantic trip. An online leak has massive implications for Keeley.”

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 8 Review: Discussion

From Nathan acknowledging the (Ted-sized) void in his life, to him attempting to form his own version of ‘Diamond Dogs’, and then the ultimate focus of Episode 8 – the conversation around Keeley’s situation, this episode goes on a steadier pace than usual, but is all about relationships and realisations for everyone. And the steady-paced aspect is good (at least for me). There’s no way you can go around not appreciating the trajectory of this show, especially when it comes to foreshadowing future events or misleading us with other actions.

Episode 8 circles around the hints in the previous entries about Jack’s true demeanour and the waving red flags in this relationship as Rebecca hinted at. On the other hand, we go back to dig into Ted’s dilemma with Henry spending the weekend with him while Michelle and Dr Jacob go off to Paris.

As much as it is painstaking to watch Ted continuously deal with these relationship issues, I can’t help but also applaud how realistically his journey post-divorce has been portrayed. The writers seem firm in depicting how he’s coming to terms with the arrangement (or not), and though we’re used to things like this being rushed on TV, Ted Lasso Season 3 has no intentions of pushing one of its main characters through this process.

Then comes the leak of Keeley’s video on the internet. Situations like this always tend to pull down the curtain on people’s psyches and what they really think about. Once again, the show wins the game with its locker room conversations and shows how people with contrasting ideologies can co-exist peacefully in society if they take out the chance to talk things out and rationally mould themselves according to the given problem. It’s an especially great step up from Dani just singing, “Football is life” all around, and it proves again why his character, Sam and Jamie, are so adored.

However, the same can’t be said for Jodi Balfour’s Jack. As I’d mentioned earlier, the red flags become more and more visible to Keeley this time, too, in more than one instance. Season 3 has been pushing Keeley around aimlessly, which deeply saddened me. Out of the three people she’s been in a relationship with, this time, only Jamie came forward to say the appropriate thing, which in one way makes you appreciate the character more considering his growth arc, but it also makes you wonder if this is headed in a particular direction for his dynamic with Keeley as well.

While initially, the show’s writing dodged from pushing for the love triangle (thankfully) between him, Roy and Keeley, it’s even more complicated with Jack in the picture. However, it could also go down the right way with the writers pushing for Keeley’s friendship with Jamie, which would kick the latter’s development up a notch higher. Also, as much as Roy’s interaction with Keeley may have seemed disappointing, this lingering sensation keeps nudging me that it was highly miscommunicated to us and that Roy didn’t actually have any ill intentions behind what he was saying; rather, he just ended up wording it all wrong.

Then, coming to the whole TedBecca aspect of this episode. The scenes with their interactions, even the latent ones like the green matchbook from Ola’s Ted’s pocket, were overtly placed into the episode more than ever despite them also being smartly concealed. With Rebecca guiding Ted to leave Michelle be and care more for what he now has with Henry, I have never rooted for the two more than I do now.

It will be quite the vision to watch what the upcoming few episodes of the remaining season will unleash. The only thing that worries me the most is how Keeley’s arc will be handled from hereon because, again, the hints about her getting back together with Roy are there, but if it’s all pushed as the endgame just for the sake of it, nothing good will come out of it.

Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 8: Favourite Moments or Quotes

  • Ted: “I’m her ex-husband not her current father”. – And yet worrying about everything, only to be chided by Rebecca later on the same lines.
  • Trent Crimm, the new member of Diamond Dogs.
  • Lesley Higgins: “You should find out before you flip out”.
  • Rebecca: “The Eiffel Tower is just a lamppost with a publicist”.
  • Ted: “I didn’t know Oscar Wilde was dead. Some of his quotes feels so modern, of our time”.
  • Barbara’s comment about Facebook being for grandparents and racists.
  • Keeley: “Restructure society so women aren’t constantly sexualised while simultaneously being crucified for being sexual”.
  • Just Keeley and Rebecca being the best set of best friends through it all.
  • “You need to stop letting yesterday get in the way of today” – Ted and Rebecca’s talk, and her telling her enjoy his time with Henry instead of worrying about Michelle and Dr Jacob.
  • Coach Beard explaining the meaning behind the song Hey Jude to Henry, and continuing to console him further about his current situation due to his parents’ divorce.
  • The entire locker room discourse led by Jamie, Isaac and Sam that intimate moments stored in a phone should be deleted after a relationship is over. – While grounded, it’s quite a refreshing stance that’s not been particularly favoured by TV shows before.
