Tathastu Review: Zakir Khan Cracks You Up With Relatable Humour; Get Ready for Some Tears Too!

Tathastu, a stand-up comedy special, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video India. Written and directed by Zakir Khan, the special is of 90 minutes. It’s a Hindi comedy special with English subtitles.

The synopsis reads, “Tathastu starts off with a recap of moments from Zakir’s life. Starting from his early school days ,the performance is a ride where the audience gets a peek at the family he was born in, the characters he grew closest to and his young years bloated with aspirations of becoming an RJ. He goes onto share a few personal learnings on stage as he tries to make sense of his journey thus far.”

Zakir Khan’s Tathastu on Amazon Prime Video is divided into three interconnected chapters. ‘Joint Family’ is the main subject of Khan’s stand-up act that branches on to various anecdotes, life events and memories. You will smile, laugh out loud, connect a lot and end up with tears.

Tathastu is dedicated to Zakir’s late grandfather and musician, Ustad Moinuddin Khan. While sharing jokes about what life was like growing up in a big joint family, Zakir talks more about his bond and rapport with his grandfather. He addresses him as Khan Sahab, who has been pivotal in shaping Zakir as a person and comedian. After all, his show on Prime has made people laugh with the amazing memories he shared with Khan Sahab!

Through the comedy special, Zakir takes us through his college journey, a career as an RJ, his first call from the All India Bakchod (AIB) team, the Star Plus project and eventually, a big loss. After filling the room with great punches and generating laughter, he ends the special on an impactful, emotional note.

Zakir’s entire segment about growing up in a joint family will often have you screaming ‘relatable AF’. As the humour hits home, you can’t help but laugh at how life has been similar to many of us growing up. His struggles and success help us understand how his journey to becoming a comedian has not been a cakewalk. Some jokes didn’t get many laughs, but the audience was jolly and enthusiastic.

The last 15 minutes is where the comedy gets real and moving. The laughters turn into smiles and eventually tears. Zakir explains why his special is called ‘Tathastu’ and how it has everything to do with his grandfather.

Except for a few misses, Zakir’s stand-up comedy special is a must-watch. He cracks you up with relatable humour and makes you emotional in the end. Along with great humour, there are hidden life lessons. The comedian points out certain ironies of the elders that we have experienced and laughed at. The 90 minutes will help you understand Khan and give you a closer look at how his life has been from the beginning till now.
